Man im not saying we're close to that stage right now.
Shit we've got plenty of space. And even if we run out in a few thousand years we can always live underground and let nature have the surface.
Im talking 10000 years in the future here.
I've seen an exploded spine before see, thats why I was wondering how exactly you were posting from beyond the grave.
Shrapnel is not polite.
i would go so far as to say it is downright inconsiderate
but naw, i had shingles, bad times, it fucked up my nerves and now i got serious damage and pain that i can honestly describe as unimaginable
it may account for my surly demeanor
but i doubt it
think i'm just a prick
I had the shingles on the right side of my head last year, it was the second most painful thing I've ever had to endure in my life. Are you on Antibiodics or some other stuff?

no
shingles cannot be cured by antibiotics as it is viral, not bacterial.
there is an antiviral treatment for shingles, however it requires acting on the rash within 72 hours of it appearing.
like an idiot, i ignored it when i first got it because i thought it was an allergic reaction. it was only after four days i went to the doctor and they were like whooooooops sorry bout your luck fucker
then it spread rapidly across my body, got into my lymphnodes, got into my spine, etc.
i've fought it off, so it appears. the lesions have vanished, and now all the scabs have healed away. still got some scars though.
however, the damage it did to my nerves appears to be permanent and a sign of postherpetic neuralgia
basically this is the most painful time i've ever experienced in my entire life and i'm massively depressed and suicidal. i just spent a week going through extremely unpleasant withdrawal from the hydromorphone they were giving me for the pain and now the pain medication i am on (toradol) does jack shit and just makes my gut hurt like i was stabbed.
and i've been stabbed, i'm not exagerrating the sensation!
i'm calling my doctor today about it, actually
this also marks the like fourth time i've explained it on the forums in two days

Mmm, so I wonder why my doctor prescribed antibiodics for me, Famvir pills and Zovirax.
You may wish to speak to your doctor pretty soon man, those sensations sound pretty harsh, shingles makes the end of your nerves feel all sorts of weird sensations. One second I felt like I was in a tub of ice, then like my head was over a stove and finally the sharp stabbing pains you're mentioning.
Part of me wishes I could just take a short term time travel trip hundreds or even thousands of years into the future, just to see how things turn out. I am fascinated by the future.
The other part of me is worried about the chance of nuclear fallout or any other infinite number of apocalyptic scenarios/things going wrong and doesn't want to risk it.
you seem to forget that we need both living space and farm land to produce the incomprehensible amounts of food needed to feed 40 billion people.
and you seem to forget there's no farm land on the moon!
and if you've got the technology to fucking make some, then you've got the same technology to build it on a strip of the god damn gobi desert
see how ridiculous this is?
you say "but we'll develop the technology to make space colonies viable, we will!" and i can swiftly respond "then you can use it to further colonize Earth in ways we didn't think possible before"
So lets colonize all of Earth? Completely deplete it of its resources and have no alternative off of Earth?
I had trigrenial neuralgia on the right side of my head for a couple of years that shit hurts. Stupid dentist clipped the nerve with the aneasthetic needle.

I'm tired of futuristic settings having ambiguous white backgrounds. Waking up and walking into three white walls trying to get to the white toilet...that would be the most fucking annoying thing in the world.
Albinos would be the most sought-after invisible assassins.

Plus it would be a pain in the ass to keep clean.

I remember January 1, 2000 I went down to the mall fully expecting all of the clothes stores to only be selling silver jumpsuits
I was severely disappointed
i think in 10,000 years we will either have a much smaller population than now or we will have a slightly larger population with more homogenous, but lower, standards of living (relatively speaking; not wanting to suggest that technology will stagnate)
By the time 10000 years rolls by, we will have gone through so many transformations that if there is any ancestor of ours left alive they will be undoubtedly another species at the least.
This is unless something radical happens wherein we continually lose all our technology and progress due to war or natural disaster over and over again.
Something that will happen however is the descent of humanity into a world of infinite creation and experience that we ourselves create. Its an almost laughably easy future compared to some of the physics defying futurescapes we all love to dream about.
We dont have to do anything "for real". We can create another reality and define its rules, set ourselves lose in it and come back unharmed if anything happens to go wrong.
This is the future of "video games", people. Entire lives or experiences that we can enter completely and forget about reality because it would hold the exact same experience for us as a world in which we can dream up.
First, like how it works today, companies will spend millions and billions building worlds for us and then we purchase them and partake in them.
Eventually, computer technology will reach a point where it can guess what we want to create by listening to our minds and work out the small details procedurally. This means god-like powers within a virtual reality. If we tire of being a god, we can set the simulation to set us on the ground within the simulation as a limited individual, and it may go as far as severing our recollection of creation, thus making everything a mystery.

I think we'll have many more problems to worry about prior to every bit of land on earth covered in an exponentially expanding mass of human flesh
Nobel Prize, please.

not antibiotics
clue: they've got "vir" in their names.
Don't mind me.
Ah thats right I used antibiotics for something else.

Sounds like a sound plan.
Mars can be Tatooine!

I dunno man
cro magnons lived 10,000 years ago and we don't look much different from them
This is not negotiable. Shit's been trying to kill me for 28 years.
I'm still here. I will find a way.

It's not that great
maybe when you guys catch up i won't be so lonely!
Modern Mechanics is "Yesterday's future today!" It's a bunch of scans of old science magazines from the 30's, 40's and 50's.
Paleo-Future is a blog that basically does the same things, but specifically focuses on how wrong the past was about the present.
And, Brass Goggles, because you think putting a cog on a bowler hat is cool.
Then I reread Planetary a few years later and it was like "goodness did I just copy this wholesale?"
