Re-installing/revisiting older PC games
Posts
Awesome, just make sure you patch it up first. It can be buggy as hell otherwise.
edit: I would suggest starting with the 'pure' patch from Tessmage's site. Make sure you're applying this to a version that already has the latest patch from Activision (1.2). You can get more info on Tessmage's site if needed, just be warned that it's NSFW (lots of nude skins for various video games).

I don't want to buy a joystick >.<
I can't wait to play it though now, I love having a laptop for playing older games it's perfect just sitting on couch and gaming out

It's right there in the top of the OP for it: http://esfiesta.sa.kikaimegami.com/MMMMList.txt

edit: heh, beat me to it.
i was bored during work yesterday, so i extracted every text file and read them to see what all was in the pack. just about every npc is somewhat unique now and several towns/continents/dungeons/houses/mansions/etc have been added. it really is like playing a new game now.
Man, I had no idea. It's been a while since I played Morrowind too. Looks like I'll be giving this a try soon.
I'll have to look that up, there's no digital distribution place I can download it from?
If there is, it's total news to me. It's been out of print for over ten years, and the small company that bought the distribution rights to it a while back since vanished from the internet. There's only one real website that's any resource for the game, and it's Darklands.net, which itself hasn't been updated in seven years. Whichever way you end up getting it through, you'll need the copy-protection booklet that comes with it, which is available on that site. Hell, my original fully-legal copy of Darklands didn't even have the thing, and I had to play the game by guessing the copy protection challenges for years.
For all the effort you have to go through to get it, though, it's a damn good game and quite a bit before its time. Designing a modern remake in the vein of Sid Meier's Pirates! for something like XBLA or PSN has been a dream of mine for years.
Edit: You can find copies used on Amazon, but they go for fairly ridiculous prices. $90? No way.

Uh, uh, things that make me pee myself!
Things that are brutal!
Things that are blacker than the blackest black!
No wait, I got it: Things that make me want to go back in time so I can already own them.
Now where's my fucking hundred thousand dollars?
I didn't even mention that you can use human body parts as weapons.
Or that there's a giant black guy named Fat Larry who asks you to kill a bunch of Asians.
Also, fuck Unreal AI! I don't remember for sure about 1, but Unreal 2's enemies had instant reflexes making any weapon with a travel time and no splash damage WORTHLESS, everything would just roll/dodge out of the way until it was in your face and proceed to rape you.
That said, I did play Unreal through the UT Oldskool mod a while back and it was a blast
TA is glorious.
Or maybe it's just my nostalgia, I dunno. But go play it anyway.
Trust me, it's genuine gloriousness.
Back on old PC games, I'm still playing good ol' Doom to this day. Truly a game that stood the test of time (Well I'm using a source port, but still, just crank the resolution up and you're good to go)
Allows you to cycle through points (hit F3 multiple times)
Automatic map and mod downloading in the default lobby
Much better font system (and the default fonts are prettier too)
New water shader (with dynamic waves, reflections and refractions, but faster than dynamic water)
Hardware mouse cursor support
Ingame alliances
Music playing support (well once someone codes an interface for it)
Singleplayer support in default lobby (though Spring singleplayer isn't so fun)
Tons of bugfixes
Tons of optimizations
Whispering
Those are just the changes I find important though, and its nothing compared to the massive changelog since last time there was a Spring topic here...
1 is so much better than 2. You should like try harder or something.
I could not second this motion enough. Unreal is dated, but it still hits all the right notes even now. The Sunspire level is amazing no matter how many times I play through it. :^:
Now playing: Teardown and Baldur's Gate 3 (co-op)
Sunday Spotlight: Horror Tales: The Wine
Holy God is right. I tried BG2 at 1680x1050. It looked pretty damn good, just really tiny. I had to bring it down some.
I still have my original Sidewinder sitting here in a drawer. No way I'd break it out now that I'm married. I need a study or a separate PC room for it.
They also do a set for Unreal Tournament (the 1999 game)

That's cool. Are there any screenshots? I didn't see any at the site.
@ Tallus: I'll have to check that out. Looks pretty cool.
Ugh, Grim Fandango is one game I never should have gotten rid of.
I'm downloading the UT ones now, I'll try and get some screenshots later.

You can get into an argument with a stop sign.
"You've made a powerful enemy today, sign."
Truly this game is so genius it hurts me in my down-belows.
No other x-com title is on steam. Also, it claims not to run on vista.
X-com: UFO defense is very, very cheap for PC, but 50+ bucks used for playstation.
I've never played Terror from the Deep, but hearing the non-stop screams of my friend's squad dying horribly, over and over again, while I watched TV has gained my interest.
Hopefully Heavy Duty (watch the videos) will a) be as good as it looks, and b) actually come out.
Yes, yes, yes. I loved both the Mech Commander games and wish for another. Or, better yet, a turn-based one!
Great list. Needs more Missionforce: Cyberstorm, which I managed to get to work windowed in XP earlier this year.
Steam profile.
Getting started with BATTLETECH: Part 1 / Part 2
Unlike other attempts to remake the classic games, this really manages to capture the atmosphere that made those games such an amazing experience.
Seriously, check it out.

Okay, if you thought Enemy Unknown was hard...
TftD is about THREE TIMES HARDER. Part of the problem is that you need to have special weapons for the terror missions because the normal weapons won't work above water.
And the Chryssalid replacements FLY
