If you played the Fire Emblem series up til this point, get radiant dawn - It will kick your arse though. If you haven't played them yet, and you are into strategy RPGs, get the gamecube one first.

If you can find it on the cheap, Excite Truck is good fun.

And Mario Kart Wii is worth a rental at least. Some love it (me), and some loathe it. But it's worth it especially if you're into the time trial scene (hackers have yet to ruin time trials since the number 1 time has to submit a ghost, so cheating is detected and deleted). Has a pretty decent online too (friends codes still though, of course).

And one question: how is your gamecube collection? There's buttloads of awesome CGN games to get too, if you didn't have one last gen.

lol I buy tons of games for gamecube because they are cheap and I have a wavebird. It is funny I have tons of GC and VC games.

    I forgot all about Nights..

I know everyone keeps saying to buy a 360 for online but I see no reason for Nintendo not to release some online games. I think they could make some really great games online.

Oh, there's no doubt that they could make some really nice online games. It's just that they seem to think nobody really cares about online capabilities and so they only add online as an afterthought.

Even on X360, less than half of the userbase has XBL account. And no-one knows how many these accounts are gold.

The games I've most enjoyed playing online with the Wii are Guitar Hero 3, Mario Kart, Mario Strikers, leader-boarding it up with GeoWars Galaxies, and then to some extent playing MOHH2 online. But I'm really not too big into online gaming. I prefer playing with friends locally or doing leaderboard type stuff. But that's just me.

Smash Bros is online but I've never even tried it. I never much cared for playing that online.

Batallion Wars II is online compatible. I don't own it though.

Blast Works, I believe, you can share your custom levels online and also receive others' stuff. So there's a lot of variety and content there.

There are a few more games out there with leaderboard stuff too.

Super Mario Galaxy is the best Mario game ever made, which automatically makes it one of the greatest games of all time. If you hate it, there is probably something wrong with you. You should see a doctor or perhaps a priest.

That it may be the best game of this generation is not a controversial opinion, as the only games with as much critical acclaim this gen are GTA IV and The Orange Box.

They're specifically trying to promote group play on a single machine. That's one of the things about waggle - it gets exponentially more fun with more players in the same room, because it makes play more demonstrative. Basically they see online as a content distribution tool, with remote multiplayer as an occasional benefit.

Since it hasn't been mentioned, I'd like to mention Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. If you like shooting zombies, you will play this game until your hands cry for respite. Accurately aiming can get difficult on the old wrists, but it is worth it. In one rental of this game I put probably 20-30 hours into it. Also two player co-op. You might want to try the Wii zapper to help with the "ow my hands" factor, but impressions I've heard on it weren't very good, for this specific game.

As for why Nintendo hasn't done more games with good online offerings, a certain VG Cats comes to mind:

The Wii's online is incredibly clunky, more or less requiring an outside hub to get friend codes from, such as PA. Matchmaking between random people is terrible and awkward, and there is extremely, and I mean extremely little ability to chat. This is all in a vain effort to OH GOD PROTECT THE CHILDREN, which is doomed to failure because the internet exists, and kids will be kids. Restrictions like this just make them more curious and determined to get around it.

But Nintendo cares a lot about its image with respect to the Blue Ocean, so people who just want to, you know, play games and have fun get boned.
