There have been literally dozens of threads about Mount & Blade in my time in G&T, and it is finally getting the retail release it deserves.
As of today the game is available from Gamersgate for €29.99/£23.76/$42.27, they are still selling it
direct for €22.47/£17.80/$31.68, and they say a serial bought direct will work with version 1.0 too (which is I assume what Gamersgate have up too). If anyone is more in the know about pricing and availability, then please let me know. It will also be getting a boxed retail release, but I imagine this will be the most expensive way to get it.
If people want to get it from Gamersgate, maybe we should start up a referral chain similar to the goozex thread, since gamersgate give you 10% of what you send them in referrals in store credit. Mine is
here, if you buy it from gamers gate via my link, let me know and I will add yours to the OP.
So, what is mount and blade?
It's a kickass open ended medieval action RPG, made by a Turkish Couple.
Here's what they say about it -
The World
Mount&Blade places you in a dynamic world alive with action and detail. NPC groups in this world are continuously active, journeying, looking for enemies and engaging in battles with each other, whether you are there to see them or not. It is, in a way, a very real world. Events unfold and some quests are resolved through the world's own dynamics.
Combat
Battles in Mount&Blade require a high degree of concentration and user involvement. A few powerful blows can take you down, and there is no such thing as a "healing potion", therefore you must stay alert and parry or dodge each and every blow. This is difficult, but when you enter a pitched battle against five dark knights, and emerge as the last man standing, you will know that you deserve your reputation as the finest swordfighter in Calradia.
The Commander
Even a formidable fighter can be overwhelmed by numbers and enemy parties tend to be strong in numbers in Mount&Blade. Therefore if you want to stand up against them, you will have to raise your own band of soldiers. Peasants will join your band with nothing more than their farming tools. And in the firebed of battles, they will either perish or be hardened into professional warriors, while you yourself will evolve from a lonesome adventurer to a seasoned and cunning commander, and a force to be reckoned with.
Characters and Quests
An absorbing world featuring vivid characters, realistic dialogues and intuitive quests adds to the excitement of the game and establishes the atmosphere.
While being a light-weight game, Mount&Blade is neverthless exciting, addictive, and revolutionary. We invite you to join in the fun and ride your horse to the adventures that await you in the Calradian plains...

And it is made by two people.
I strongly suggest you check out the
demo, and see if you're interested.

Frodogorn is hyped for this game.
I logged more hours on this game than X-COM and EverQuest combined.
Here's hoping "The Last Days" mod comes out for 1.0!
Let 'em eat fucking pineapples!
Then modding can begin in full. My warhammer 40k mod, let me show you it.

Question two: Is the interface still only for those who has played the game since 0.00001?
Question three: If I already bought it back in 0.6 something, is this still a free upgrde?
PS. The last version I tried, they had removed the necessity to walk around towns alltogether, making the game either clicking through menus or travelling the world map looking for battles. Rather boring, imo. Can it still be played this way? Menus only?
My download is at 97% and I will report back tomorrow with answers to all of these.
Edit: Although I am pretty sure yes, this will be a free upgrade.
Best 10$ spent EVER.
About every 12 months I reinstall the latest build and go nuts for a few days of pure joy....I'm excited to see what 1.0 will look like.
Is the 1.0 download available already?
From what I can tell, only on Gamersgate at the minute, but that might just be because I have a press account.
And yes, reports from people on the Taleworlds forums who have the retail game have pretty much confirmed that the jump from .960 to 1.0 was almost entirely purely cosmetic. No word yet on whether or not sieges have been made un-retarded.

Honestly, I don't really care, I picked it up back when it was like fourteen bucks and it has been the best fourteen bucks I have ever spent on a computer game

This is my beef. It's gets old because there's not a lot to do.
The LOTR mod was pretty cool though.
Just... play it. It is hands down the best mounted and melee combat I've ever seen in a game.
I think it looks great for a game essentially made by 2 people.
Because graphics are the most important thing in a game ever.
And then galloping down into the thick of it on my war horse and cracking fools across the face with a giant mace while riding by at 30mph.
It's even more fun when you play like Guts from Berserk. Pump strength, find the longest two-handed sword you can find, and just start owning faces.
Nothing beats walking up to two bandits on your left, two on your right, and ending it with four swings.
Let 'em eat fucking pineapples!
Yep, they've said that if you've paid for previous versions you've paid for the full one too. Good news for all early adopters.
Like me.
Any multiplayer at all?
No

Get it while the getting's good, 'cause the site is wanged to hell right now.
Edit: Here's a direct FileFront link if you can't get the TaleWorlds forums to load.
