Interested in Doctor Strange and Ant-Man.

I wait for trade when it comes to Y: The Last Man too. Hopefully I won't get spoiled like I did with the death of the Runaway. Maybe I'll just buy that issue and get it over with. Hopefully it's not too dependent on prior issues.

The Boys # 3 better have some nifty trademark Ennis violence in it. You get glimpses of it in the previous issues, but the first two have been all set up. I am anxious to see them finally take down a superpowered jerk.

52 was all right. The new Super-Chief seems like a dick, but I'd never heard of the old one until recently so whatever.

All-New Atom was weird, as always. Lots of naked Giganta

Detective Comics was fantastic. Much better than last issue.

Nightwing was good, finally. Thank you, Marv Wolfman, for seemingly ignoring everything Bruce Jones wrote about, other than Nightwing now being in New York.

Haven't read Y because I've only read up to Volume 4 of the trades. I've been picking up the issues for the last few months because I thought I'd have read Volumes 5 through 7 by now. Whoops.

Man, Planet Hulk has to be one of my favorite reads right now. It's everything I love about comics. I'm sure a nice hardcover will be coming out eventually, but it isn't read like they are forcibly trying to stretch out the story for the tbp or hardcover editions. Ya know…like everything else Marvel puts out. I'm looking forward to how this one turns out.

    The Irredeemable Ant-Man
    Justice League Unlimited
    Marvel Team-Up

    52. More of the same, with nothing especially stand-out, but still done competently. I wish the time devoted to Superchief could have been spent on someone who's worth learning about though, like Ralph or Supernova. B

Ant-Man was fun. It seems like it's not going to also serve as a kind of SHIELD spotlight, which I'm cool with. All the agents are interesting, both the protagonists are likable, only in different ways, and you get to see Hank Pym get smashed in the face with a rifle, which is a nice chaser for Civil War 4. Phil Hester delivers his usual awesome pencils, with his longtime partner Ande Parks inking him, and Bill Crabtree, of Invincible, coloring. Kirkman almost seems to be going for a retro vibe that's really working for me too, with expository narration boxes, thoguht balloons, and a lack of splash pages, relying instead on smaller panels. All in all it makes for a really dense, fun read. A

JLU I bought on a whim, since Booster was on the cover and it's only $2.25. I was actually pretty impressed. The story's a bit kiddy here and there, which is to be expected, but it's funny, has a lot of great dialogue, and is filled with little action scenes. It really reminds me a bit of how comics once were, with the simple coloring/art and the rougher paper. B

Marvel Team-Up ended with a whimper this month. The League of Losers got a small guest appearance, which was great, but the whole Titannus battle just fell flat. Kuhn's pencil work is still good, reminding me a lot of a slightly distorted Phil Hester, but Kirkman dropped the ball on this one. I understand he probably had a lot to wrap up in one issue, but I can't help but think it still could have been done better. C+ for the main story, A for the League of Losers bits.
    Jonah Hex
    All New Atom #1-4
    The Amazing Spider-Girl
    Beyond #2-4
    Criminal
    Detective Comics
    Dr. Strange
    Heroes for Hire #2

Some of this stuff I'm waiting for the trade on (Dr. Strange, Detective Comics), and some I'm going to buy en-masse and read all at once (Jonah Hex's missing issues, Atom, Beyond, H4H), and some I'm just waiting to hear reactions on (Criminal, Spider-Girl).

It's pretty cool when one of my biggest laments about comics is that there's too much good shit coming out for me to afford.

Amazing Spider-girl #0 was just a brief recap of vol 1 of her series plus a friends and rogues gallery to catch people up for those that missed most of the first volume. Its a bit cheaper then other books but its really only worth it for the writeups of the cast, rest you could read up on a wiki writeup. The first actually issue comes out on October 18. I'm really looking forward to it, especially if its anything like the last arc of vol 1 with the Hobgoblin who I believe is returning for the first few stories.

It was Brian K. Vaughan day today. I picked up Y, Strange, and the first issue of The Escapists. To break up the homogeny, I also picked up the new Ant-Man.

I'll start there. Ant-Man is one of my favorite early Marvel characters (I love the Essential Ant-Man stories because of how wonderfully silly they are even compared to other comics at the time), so I was kind of worried about this. I didn't hate it like I expected to, but it wasn't really that great, either. It was so incredibly dense with so many panels that I was kind of surprised when they didn't really explain seemingly important events (like the appearance of Wolverine). The lineweights were a bit too heavy for how cramed and small everything was. It made the figures lose a lot of detail. I still hate the new costume, too. Robotic legs will never be cool. I'll be sticking around for another few issues, but I hope it gets better.

    Y was everyday Y.

Strange was a good read. The best of the bunch (well, I haven't read The Escapists yet, so best out of the other two). I enjoyed the less mainstream art, but it the story almost felt like it was being written for more standard art. Still, overall, it was really good. Brian K. Vaughan is a really great dude.

Well, I bit the bullet and got Criminal #1. Thanks a lot, Ed Brubaker, now I have to increase my budget to fit in one more book. :P Seriously, even for a setup issue, it was pretty good. Then again, I'm a whore for crime capers and the like, so I may be biased.

Also, Dr. Strange: The Oath #1 was filled with win. Marvel is intent on raping my wallet with its awesome minis.

When he dies, I hope they write "Worst Affirmative Action Hire, EVER" on his grave. His corpse should be trolled.

I'd like to know what you thought of The Escapists (I loved the first 2 issues).

I'd say give Nightwing another month, since Marv Wolfman just got on it.

I will admit that the issue wasn't great, but compared to the past issues, it was a gift from above.

To answer my own question, Y isn't worth getting if you've only been collecting the trades. The reveal isn't that big of a deal (it's something you could've guessed, I'm sure) so getting spoiled won't be the end of the world. The main event, that being the exact cause of the plague, won't be until the next issue.
