Your accomplishments should make YOU proud of you, not OTHERS proud of you. Most parents out there are proud of you if you were just HAPPY doing what you do, not HOW you do what you do. They not approve of what you are actually doing... hell they may not even have an interest, but if they know you are happy doing it, that's likely enough for them.

Yes, a parent's approval or disapproval can in some cases make or break a person's will to succeed in their chosen path. I feel fortunate having parents who will love me no matter what, support me through anything, and always be there for me when I need cheering up.

tonight i went back to kickboxing for the first time in 7 years
holy dogshit i am out of shape and overweight
gonna be sore tomorrow!
but also it felt good
did they make you do exercises afterwards?
our instructor makes us do three hundred knuckle pushups, five hundred situps and one hundred fifty leg lifts before he lets us go
for the first month or so I dreamt about killing him
naw, the place i went to isn't hardcore and competitive, it's a new place, only 1 month old, run by some guys who have never run their own school before
there's like scrawny high school kids and girls who want to build self esteem and guys who are too self conscious to go to some hardcore established competitive school.
so i'm very comfortable there since i am out of shape and kinda tubby and rusty as all fuck
tonight i went back to kickboxing for the first time in 7 years
holy dogshit i am out of shape and overweight
gonna be sore tomorrow!
but also it felt good

Apparently my technique is still good though, which is nice to hear
I stopped for like six months and when I came back it was like riding a bike
once you get your sealegs back its smooth sailing
