The concept of playing as a swashbuckler on the high seas excites me to my core, but the webpage seems bereft of any useful info. Did anyone find a release date? Price point? Is it free?

Just a heads up, apparently this just went open.
Sea Combat is suprisingly decent.
Land combat is awful, though the fact that it's based around skills rather than straight levels make it a tiny bit different from the standard korean style.
Edit: go to your .../voyage century online/voyage and change the resolution in the core.cfg file.

I was in alpha/beta for this. It's awesome. Basically imagine Sid Mier's Pirates!, Uncharted Waters, and Pirates of the Carribean/AOP combined into a MMO. Also, the skill system is like UO, where you gain EXP in certain skill-tree's by completing actions (IE Mining goes up if you mine, sea combat goes up if you fight at sea, etc, etc.).
Content-wise the game has everything the previously mentioned single player games had including the whole discovering new landmarks/lands/species thing (Uncharted Waters), full-on real-time combat at sea and during boarding actions, and the ability to capture and build up towns (Including the starter town.) to build your own self/nation aligned empire. The land element sucks, but in a way, that's alright. Basically it's your typical point and click game there. However, so far as i've been able to see that works in your favor in that if you're looking to level up a specific combat or trade/crafting skill you don't really need to be paying attention/at the computer to do it. Most of the harvesting skills occur automatically and will only stop if you tell them to (Or, possibly, if you run out of space in your inventory or are attacked by another player.). Combat skills require you to actively seek out targets to kill, however, if you know how to arm your character properly you don't really need to worry about activating combat skills. Of course, the exception to that is if you're using a weapon-class that's skill-centric.
Edit: Also, this MMO is free.

Hmm... apparently you can get money for doing nothing.
I mean, literally.
Bartenders give you missions that basically involve standing around in the bar for a certain amount of time.
I don't know whether or not that's a good thing or a bad thing.
So, wait. Does everyone have a separate ship, or can you grab some friends and all travel on one ship? (and subsequently land on an unsuspecting island and look around/plunder?)
So, wait. Does everyone have a separate ship, or can you grab some friends and all travel on one ship? (and subsequently land on an unsuspecting island and look around/plunder?)
Everyone has a seperate ship. Each player can also commandeer a fleet, but noone seems to know how many ships you can actually bring to a fight. So far it appears to be one. That being said, the battles near Athens are huge. If you head straight south from there you'll find the base for a group of a pirates. The isle features two "beachheads" (Basically a "battleground" where large numbers of pirate NPC's can be fought.) and the port itself (Guarded, of course.). Aside from that, every five or ten minutes a truely HUGE fleet will disembark from the isle and engage in various acts of piracy. Depending on what the ship is named (Smugger, raider, etc, etc.) their actions range from smuggling goods into ports, to hunting down ships and sinking them.
You can also land on islands (There's quite a few of them just in the starting area for characters that start at Athens.) and look for treasure and the like but they often have various perils. For example, when I first started the game I thought it would be a good idea to explore the island of Crete. Unfortunately, it turns out that Crete happens to have a pirate outpost on it somewhere, and I wasn't on good terms with them. I died due to about fifteen pirate ships that were moored at the island coming after me. Other islands seem to have other perils, ranging from wild animals to being difficult to traverse (IE Jungles.), depending on where you are.
Where can I download this? The main site doesn't seem to work.
No idea, aside from the main site. The easiest way to get it off the official site is to download BitComet and use one of their torrents. I downloaded the installer in about an hour using it.
It asks for CC information on the Beta signup, but it IS free isn't it?
i see nothing that could go wrong with giving my credit card information to an unknown korean company..at least thats what i'd be saying if i could get their damn website to load!

Now as soon as my torrent finishes I can sail through the high seas.

Oh jesus, you make a nice amount of money doing jobs for the Ares Warrior's guild.
And grappling up to a ship is awesome. The only problem is that aside from the enemy captain, telling the difference between your crew and the pirate crew during a boarding battle is freaking hard.
Well, that and the fact that you're not allowed to steal the ships :?

Looks like his friend figured out one of the easiest ways to make insane amounts of cash and loot. If you use knippel shot (It's a type of ammunition.) on enemy ships it'll rip apart their sails and make it EXTREMELY easy to board them. Ramming is great for doing hull damage if you're just looking to sink a ship and pillage the cargo.
If you all are going to be playing this for awhile, do you want me to make a guild? If my old character is still around I should be able to do it.
Edit: Here's a tip as well if you're just starting. When you get to Athen's talk to Langer (He should be right in front of you.). Tell him you want to hunt pirates and fight and he'll give you enough materials to reconstruct your ship as a fighting vessel, a merchant vessel, or an adventuring (Exploring and whatnot.) vessel.

man...torrents suck on my net connection due to isp filtering or some shit..and their http mirrors are capping out at 3KB/s ..this could take awhile
You could try one of the download accelerators they have available on the site. I don't think Flashget works (At the very least it's horribly intrusive.) but the other one should.
