Zimmydoom, Zimmydoom
Flew away in a balloon
Had sex with polar bears
While sitting in a reclining chair
Now there are Zim-Bear hybrids
Running around and clawing eyelids
Watch out, a Zim-Bear is about to have sex with yooooooou!
I wonder if with all the voice work done over the years they could just create some sort of simulation of her voice that could just be the computer forever.
It's not like she ever had monologues or anything.
Man I just could not imagine Star Trek without that voice.

Was she really the voice of the computer in addition to Troy's mother?

Yes, she was involved in every single Trek project. She played Christopher Pike's first officer known only as "Number One" in the first Star Trek pilot. The network didn't want a woman "acting like a man," so she was eventually recast as Nurse Christine Chapel (and eventually became Dr. Chapel in two of the TOS films) and voiced the character in the animated series as well. She and Gene would later marry after Star Trek was canceled. She played the voice of the computer in every episode of Trek from the second season of TNG until the end of Voyager, as the voice of the 23rd Century Defiant from the Enterprise alternate-universe story "In A Mirror, Darkly," and was cast again in that role for the upcoming prequel film.
Picard's nickname for Riker was of course a nod to Barret-Roddenberry's role in the original Trek pilot, and as recognition for their attempt to cast a woman in a command role even if the network eventually shot it down.

I found it entertaining how as Lwaxanna Troi she never got along with the computer, constantly fighting it and such... To the average person you'd be like "Wha?", but once you realize that she and the computer are the same person, it makes it funnier....
Very classy lady, and such a shame. First lady of Star Trek, indeed.
Edit - favourite moment is when she sits down in Picard's chair on the bridge and he tells Wesley to go to warp nine, in order to get rid of her faster.

...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.
"The Forsaken" episode of DS9 is one of the best and she was a very big part of it. Obviously she had other roles, but this is my very favorite. As Laxwanna, she chewed the scenery every chance she had, but it worked marvelously with the character. She'll be missed.

"I'm a mad god. The Mad God, actually. It's a family title. Gets passed down from me to myself every few thousand years."
I like the episode where she shows up for her wedding naked (as is Betazoid custom). I think that's the only episode I really enjoyed her as Troi's mom. That character was abrasive as hell. Which I guess was the point. So she was definitely an effective actor.
OH, and the one where Picard pretends to be her lover and makes all sorts of threats at a Ferengi...can't remember much more about the context of that one, but that was pretty awesome.
She has the best damn computer voice in the world, and I'm sad she didn't get a chance to record for a future version of Windows or Mac OS. Whatever the future looks like I'll probably always be disappointed that my computer doesn't talk in her voice.
Downer indeed.
I liked her adventures with Alexander. They always made me chuckle.
Edit:
I remember years ago watching some TOS with my dad and when she came on screen I commented on how beautiful she was and asked my dad who that actress was. I didn't believe him when he told me. "wow, so Gene was able to hook up with her? lucky guy".
I really liked the episode where she was kidnapped by Ferengi, as it gave Patrick Stewart an excuse to quote lots of Shakespeare.
It's a tough choice, but either that or the aforementioned adventure on the holodeck are among my favourite episodes, as well as outstanding moments with Majel Barrett.
Star Trek's golden girl? Very fitting, and I concur that it just won't ever be the same without her.
God speed, Mrs. Barrett.

Someone on /. mentioned Majel having an appearance on Babylon 5, and that her lines were a sort of eulogy for Gene. Anyone know which episode that was? I seem to recall her appearance vaguely, but remember nothing else.

I think it was the episode with Londo's three wives. I don't really remember the episode, though.

In a gesture of goodwill between the creators of the Star Trek franchise and of Babylon 5 (whose fans often engaged in a rivalry),[7] she appeared in the latter series' episode "Point of No Return", as Lady Morella, the psychic widow of the Centauri emperor, a role which foreshadowed major plot elements in the series.
And her interactions with Rene Auberjonois in DS9 were always good too.

There is a Star Trek book in which Picard has to deal with both Q and Lwaxanna. The audio book for said book has both John De Lancie and Majel Barrett as narrators.

She played the widow of Emperor Turhan, A centauri Emperor who wanted to make peace between the Centauri and the Narn. His death destroyed any chance of the B5 universe becoming like Star Trek.
Fitting really.

Counselor Troi: Mother, I'm trying to help the boy learn the value of responsibility. You're not helping by giving him a lot of mixed messages.
Lwaxana Troi: I exposed you to all sorts of mixed messages when you were that age, you still turned out deadly dull. What are you so worried about?
Lwaxana: Someone once said that life is a search to find the peace you once had when you were safe inside your mother.
Odo: I didn't have a mother.
Lwaxana: Don't worry, it's all right. You'll find your peace just the same.

Majel Barrett had a lot of class. It's a loss to Hollywood that she didn't have much of a career outside of Trek.
the "no true scotch man" fallacy.
Godspeed, good lady.
Really makes me sad.
You know what this means? No more Star Trek. It just wouldn't be right without her.
