Ignorance and pseudo-science rear their ugly heads again
A new book defending vaccines, written by a doctor infuriated at the claim that they cause autism, is galvanizing a backlash against the anti-vaccine movement in the United States. But there will be no book tour for the doctor, Paul A. Offit, author of "Autism's False Prophets." He has had too many death threats.
"I'll speak at a conference, say, to nurses," he said.
"But I wouldn't go into a bookstore and sign books. It can get nasty. There are parents who really believe that vaccines hurt their children, and to them, I'm incredibly evil. They hate me."
Fanatical idiots rant against a doctor that's actually a co-inventor of a vaccine for rotavirus and denounce him as an evil babykiller.
I think I heard this guy on NPR. It was a pretty good show.
The "anti-vaccine" movement has a bunch of celebrities behind it so it gets a lot of publicity and gets people worked up. I think one of the most vocal ones is... I want to say Jenny McCarthy.
But of course, people getting up in arms over a stupid idea usually gets more press than people being rational.
edit: I was late. Yeah, so it is Jenny McCarthy. As if she wasn't annoying enough already.
Jenny McCarthy claims her child had autism as a result of vaccinations and that her child is no longer autistic
It's such concentrated liquid stupid I want to slather her with a flamethrower
My best friend's an autistic dude and man these folk have it hard enough as it is without god damn misinformation and lies being brought up about their condition.
the irony being that removing one non-native species allowed another non-native species to get out of control
thus threatening the native birds they were trying to protect
Can't a vaccination, being made of (presumably) weakened cells of whatever you're trying to vaccinate, backfire and give you whatever you were vaccinating against in the first place?

I....I knew people were stupid, and I knew people thought this, but delving slightly deeper shows you just exactly how insane these people are. My head hurts

before exploring how vaccination actually works lets start with the fact that autism is not a virus
Can't a vaccination, being made of (presumably) weakened cells of whatever you're trying to vaccinate, backfire and give you whatever you were vaccinating against in the first place?
That's exactly what it does. It gives you an incredibly weak version of whatever and then you create antibodies and you are far less likely to get that disease or whatever ever again.

but she says it gives you autism or something.
Well, maybe the doctors were dumb and injected you with full-strength autism-causing virus cells

Goddamnit people stop making us look bad.
They never have and never will go away.
Definitely is an anti-vaccine movement. Especially in Africa.
People spread rumors that they will do something bad and people refuse them. Polo is actually making comeback because of it.
I'm so confused
it's called immune systems and antibodies
oh god what is wrong with the world
jenny mccarthy is leading our country's autism movement
I'd say that pretty much sums up the anti-vaccine movement.

you think Ralph Lauren would be more sensitive to this plight
They think it gives kids autism.
They cause autism. But it's okay, because Jenny McCarthy can cure it.
I know he's talked about it on here many times

Why wouldn't you trust her with your child's health?
Just regular polo or water polo too?

you've seriously never heard of Christian Science before?
(hint: it has nothing to do with Christianity or science)
