Your Pic was on CNN tho, a little bit more famous than a local newspaper.
I have many more from the night that I need to work on a bit as they were a bit bright, photoshop will be busy when I get home tonight.
Oh man, I completely forgot about this! I believe I witnessed one thunderstorm the two years I lived in Nanaimo. Took a bit to get used to them when we moved back to Ontario.
I think you're right (although he claims, whenever he pipes up, that he does minimal post processing) - I think getting closer with wildlife is sort of a different topic than getting closer with people. At least, from the angle from which I have been thinking about it (specifically due to the Online Photographer blogpost). I see a psychological dynamic discussed by choosing to be "of" the people you are shooting (or among them) versus being apart and spying on them. I doubt animals share this theorized psychological hangup.
Also, Kworn - congrats!!

We get a lot of lightning storms in this part of coloraod between may and end of june but its almost always raining. I haven't worked up the motivation to try and go to the top of a parking garage or drive up the foothills/mountains to get a good vantage point and protect the camera from rain.
Unfortunately, my ISO was at 400 when I took this because the mission we were on was at dusk when we started. Had it been at 200, the noise wouldn't be as bad. I was able to reduce it a lot in Light Room though.

Man, this shot and the one before it in your art thread are effing incredible. Honestly when the subject is a helicopter kicking up dust in a war zone, a little noise and grain on the shot are perfectly acceptable. It's not like anyone in their right minds imagines war as smooth and glossy.
Seriously, this is so great. The depth to which I can see into the dust cloud in one part and see the tall grass give the image nice depth (something mine consistently lack - my shots are always very 2D), and the colors and the shaping of the dust cloud really set the mood. Fantastic.

I felt the same way, but unfortunately I didn't really have a lot of time to think about it. I often turn my shutter up higher than it should be in the fear that I'll over expose the image. I usually find I'd much rather have an awesome under-exposed shot that I can fix than a blown out shot I have to throw away.

I do as a matter of fact. I don't typically shoot on shutter priority, usually either aperture or manual. I'll definitely keep that in mind next time I see a bird though.

Guess I'll be doing less pet photography now.
EDIT:
Sorry this took so long, I removed noise and sharpened the image but then noticed the colour in the water wasn't as nice in the sharpened version so reverted to the original and just removed noise.

EDIT: I thought I commented on it in here, Maximas that copter shot is awesome!
Anyone have any suggestions for some Sony a-mount lenses?

I discovered tonight that I have no clue how to use my camera and flash in these incredibly low light situations.
Here's 3 quick photos I took Saturday in Odaiba, Tokyo. Also, loving my circular polarizer!
Everyone heard about the full 1:1 scale Gundam Statue?
I'm still working on getting a feel for what I want to do with layers and the like, so these pics need a lot of work still...
Edit: Messed with some colors to see how they would turn out. I think I like what I got on the last 2...

How's the photo thread

I took these in San Antonio's Historic District.
I was staying in a house that is 104-years old
and one from the riverwalk. a walk-by, no look shot
18-55mm@55mm, ISO 400, 1/320s, F/5.6
I finally got a second lens, a cheapo Nikkor 55-200mm VR. I like it alright even though it feels cheap and plasticky and the autofocus likes to freak out every once in a while.
55-200mm@200mm, ISO 400, 1/100s F/5.6
55-200mm@200mm, ISO 100, 1/125s, F/5.6
I tried setting up the auto ISO on my D60 and I ended up with a bunch of blown out highlights and everything shooting with ISO 800 (which is what I set the maximum to) except in mid-day sun. I also seem to be getting a fair bit of vignetting on the 55-200mm. Is this common, or am I borking something up? I'm not using any filters and I'm using the hood it came with. It seems like every shot I take in shutter priority mode has the aperture wide open, maybe I need to slow it down or up my ISO? (All three of the above are at f/5.6)
@ Muncie - A friend of mine is having the opposite problem when shooting shutter priority - erverything is under exposed (he also shoots Nikon). I myself never shoot shutter priority. I might choose to if I were shooting a soccer game or a running animal, and then I might aim for 1/250-1/500 for stopping action. But normally I shoot aperture priority, as that gives me one major control over my images - Depth of Field. I usually set my ISO to 100 or 200 because my camera gets grainy pretty easily, and then any aperture I set my camera can handle a good exposure from (f/4 and my shutter is fast, but ususally nowere near its limit, so exposre is good; f/2.8 same story; f/16 and the only concern is is the shutter too slow to hand-hold?)
I find that this mode almost always puts my settings in places I am happy to have them.

Here, let me quote those for you since you are jailed.
Mucie-
That bird on the wire shot is just perfect. Do you have a larger version of it?

The photo thread is sad or at least I am. I haven't done a fashion show or political thing in a while. I've gotten some snap-shotty stuff of my friends and I climbing so I might post that soon for a lack of anything better to post.
olimario: Thanks! I was really happy with that one. Here's a larger version (1680px × 1125px, 700kb).
What do you guys think of these? I have been dying to go out and take pictures but Tampa area is boring as hell:
-A
"Oh what a day, what a LOVELY DAY!"
The first one gives me a spooky "no shit I wouldn't park my car there, zombies would probably eat my brains" vibe to it. The F being cut off kind of bugs me a bit.
and I've got to throw in the typical male comment: boring Tampa area? Couldn't you just go out taking pictures of bikini clad women?
and finally: some of you people better be going to be PAX, I want to see some crazy photos up in here!
I have been very interested in shooting skyscrapers at night, but haven't found a way to make the shots interesting. I kinda like how this one came out though.
Here you go:
This one is from my bedroom balcony
Oh and another lightning shot, this one went off right above me lol
Yaaaaayyyy!
Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.
