man how were the master grade models? I always wanted to get one but ain't got shit for painting skills and figured they'd look crappy unpainted
The master grade models require no painting, like the other gundam models
they're just a shitload more complicated, with an internal skeleton and everything
Of course even those pale in comparison to Perfect Grade models, which had a complete endoskeleton and usually a bunch of other features, like light up eyes and opening cockpits and flaps and working pistons and such
The suit designs in 0083 (Kawamori from Macross/Escaflowne worked on them) and 08th (Katoki did these, I think?) were pretty awesome, too; but not as awesome.
Yeah, I'm a little late but eh.
Well damn, 08th MS really is balls-awesome. Never actually managed to sit through more than an hour worth of anime before but on the 9th episode of this and still rockin on. Liking the fact that's it's more of a war story than it is PEW PEW giant robots explosions and angst!
For you and all the other dudes watching G and 08th for the first time and liking them: You should check out either 0080 or 0083 next, and if you enjoy both of those then move on to the original movie trilogy. All 3 are character-centric war stories, but each in that progression casually grow more and more standard anime traits.
They're all from a time where anime was more a medium then a genre, and not everything had to be rainbow gay with terrible dialog and characters dedicated to every DSM-IV disorder.

maybe it's just because I finished watching the series today but I would be all over buying a Gundam Rose or Bolt Gundam model
do they even make those for the wacky G Gundam designs? probably not
Yeah, I wrote my list mostly in order of length. I figure the non-believers would be more interested in a couple of shorter bits before jumping into the full series.
I need to get a new hard drive so I have space to grab those shows. I was hoping Bandai would license them some day, but they're so fucked right now they can't even afford to bring the Zeta movies over.
I'd also like to finish watching Ideon. I watched the first movie, and was completely confused by terrible pacing. Next time I'll actually go for the show and movie 2.

I used to order that stuff all the time back 5 or 6 years ago.
At the time, they always kept the older series in production, so you could still grab kits from older shows.
I really loved the full-out action figures, though. They cost a fuckton in Japan, but they were insanely cheap when they got brought over here, and it eventually caused the price in Japan to dip as well.

Really good stories usually have layers. Or, at least a bigger plot that gets plenty of attention and isn't just served as waiting time in between fights.
It seems like action scenes are always better when there's buildup and more passive parts of the story for the viewer to absorb, which lead to the main event. It's not for everyone, but I always prefer stories that have more than just an action story to tell, and have good buildup to a fewer number of really intense fights, instead of throwing out one gigantic battle after the next.
The skirmish with Norris wouldn't have been so suspenseful if they'd been fighting ace pilots like him in every episode.

X had some cool designs, as a whole it seems pretty underappreciated

Yeah, isn't the fully transformable SRX like $600 though?
And fuck yeah Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad. Those toys are goddamn fantastic. I have pretty much all of them, and busted them out like a year ago, and was surprised at how great of a quality they are.

the only good thing to come out of that show was Nescaflowne.

The Leopard Gundam.

I mean, I got the slightly less awesome (and expensive) MG Nu Gundam, but I really regret not paying the extra $20 for the Sazabi.
holy shit is that tim curry?
May he rest in peace.
You know what would be totally awesome to have.
This.
Which also had Tim Curry, as well as a Lawrence brother!
They tried so hard to be the Power Rangers.
SRX is so much more awesome.
