The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Fate has ordained that the men who went to the Moon to explore in peace will stay on the Moon to rest in peace.
These brave men know there is no hope for their recovery but they also know that there is hope for mankind in their sacrifice.
These two men are laying down their lives in mankind’s most noble goal: the search for truth and understanding.
They will be mourned by their families and friends; they will be mourned by their nation; they will be mourned by the people of the world; they will be mourned by a Mother Earth that dared send two of her sons into the unknown.
In their exploration, they stirred the people of the world to feel as one; in their sacrifice, they bind more tightly the brotherhood of man.
In ancient days, men looked at stars and saw their heroes in the constellations. In modern times, we do much the same but our heroes are epic men of flesh and blood. Others will follow and surely find their way home. Man’s search will not be denied but these men were the first and they will remain the foremost in our hearts.
For every human being who looks up at the Moon in the nights to come will know that there is some corner of another world that is forever mankind.
yes, clearly leaving off the first word of the sentence, which most people forget is there in the first place, invalidates the content of the rest of the piece
it's so obvious!

he probably means that the quote "really" should go "one small step for a man..."
not that that makes much of a difference
I mean, yeah, without the "a" the quote doesn't make any sense, but that's the way everyone knows it anyway
edit: and a quick glance at wiki leads me to believe the "a" wasn't actually said, even though he must have meant to put it in there. it certainly wasn't heard.
that little article helps a lot more with the understanding of what he meant than your quarrel with this author's decision on sentence pacing and structure.
of all the times i have heard the actual piece of audio, i have never heard so much as a suggestion of a man, even though i know that's what he was supposed to have said

what was that mini-series Tom Hanks did about NASA and the moon landings? It was incredible, I set riveted in front of the screen and gobbled it all up

yes
I need to find that thing and watch it again
the episode where it shows how they designed and built the landing pod was the greatest
Oh god now I want someone to make a documentary film about the first colony on Mars and how we discovered alien technology there and discovered faster-than-light travel.

It was like interviews with astronauts in the Apollo program

There was some interference and Houston was all "what was that?"
And it was repeated as "had a problem."

Whitey on the Moon - Gil Scott-Heron
Nasa is a bloated institution that isn't interested in much more than PR stunts like the International Space Station.
The real question is why aren't we on the moon, harvesting all that delicious helium 3
comments on this one are good
Simply put, we will need another cold war with some rival super power announcing that they will have that glory.
To which we'd be all "nuh uh! Go, Nasa! I choose you!"
buhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
