Arena server last night was great fun.
I think drinking + Arena is a great combination. You can't take the game too seriously since the rounds are short and the teams are auto-scrambled. I think it was fantastic to have it open to the public as well. The closed servers are great but when I hopped on around 1/1:30 AM EST there were not a lot of people on them(2 or so on the non-Arenas). Being public helped populate the Arena server.
Also I got to spec Flippy as a Scout. Something I love about Arena. Watching players on PA when not being consumed with my survival is a learning experience.
Ok so, for the people who played it last night. What was the take on the Public Arena Server?
I'm impressed. I really like how people are almost always on, despite some of them not being PA people. It makes those early morning urges more bearable. Another plus is that when PA people see somebody in server, they're much more likely to join, so we ended up with a great deal of PA folk, and a smaller number of pubbers, which was nice.
So after watching the awesome video, I thought I'd give the Spy a good, honest attempt:
I like it.
I did the same thing on Friday night just after the surprise Spy update. I do not remember being that good as a a Spy. I managed to have the entire enemy team on their toes whilst playing Hydro.
I tried doing that last night, but with my main gaming rig out of commission for a while, I'm stuck on my ancient 2.4ghz, nvidia 6600 system and it's really REALLY bad. Low framerate really fucks with timing and makes me feel like I'm moving sluggish.
I wonder if the fact that they modeled a female means we may be getting female versions of classes soon or if it was just for the joke
I believe I read somewhere that they wouldn't because it would mess with the easily recognisable silhouettes. Then again, we're getting hats even though they said they might mess with the silhouettes too.
If they ever do the hunted game mode, they could make the civilian female.
Yeah ok that was awesome. Not as absolutely amazing as the Spy video was though. Valve, have my children. :P
And about them making chick versions I keep going back and forth; it'd be cool to finally be able to play them instead of the usual beefy guys I'm stuck with, but it'd be lame to mess up the silhouettes. But then again this is Valve and I'm sure they'd design them around that.

You can't spawn camp in TF2. Spawn camping is sitting on someones spawn point and killing them before they have time to react/prepare. If you sit outside a spawn zone you're just a temporary speedbump.
I never understood people crying about it. It's not like an MMO where the other person is buffed to shit and you respawn with like half health or something. You're 5 feet away from a magical instant health closet, the person camping is at a disadvantage aside from surprise.
Being dickish is usually characterized by intent rather than action. I often watch spawn when we cap A as a sniper but I happened to be heavy that time. Me and a few others started blockading them whilst the rest of our team dismantled their defense at B and capped. Lasted about a minute.
Then I ran out of ammo and got stabbed whilst trying to waddle away, I think.
