I like the characters, humor, and Kirkman's gift for single-handedly creating an extensive and interesting universe with a ton of plotlines going on at once, but the violence and dialogue (especially during emotional scenes) severely harm things. I wish Kirkman had a writing partner.

I've never tried Invincible either, but it's more to do with Kirkman's post-Image partner attitude than the actual concept. I don't want to give Kirkman money, to be quite honest.
Although I like Ottley's art in all I've seen of it, and he along with Stjepan Sejic are two artists who can fetch a good penny from the big 2 after their exclusives are over.

ahahaha
In Atom Eve & Rex Splode the doctor that explains Rex's powers is carrying a bunch of Portal diagrams, cake included
Matt Fraction mentioned something interesting on Word Balloon. The Avengers crew has taken on the X-Office model of keeping the summits small, and so when they recently had an Avengers summit in New York it was Bendis, Gage, Brubaker and Fraction.

As someone who just read the first hardcover and TBP 4-5, I agree with this wholeheartedly.

So, Invincible. Questions ffrom someone who hasn't read it before.
1) Is Invincible a single series, or is a number of different series and Invincible is an overall universe, like with Marvel or DC?
2) Invincible is clearly violent, is it also sexually explicit/"bad" language etc?
3) Can I pick up a TPB for the first issues, and are their collected omnibus editions?
Invincible is a single series, but a lot of Kirkman's other works eventually cross over in some way
There are a couple instances of near-nudity, and I think I remember the word "shit" once or twice, but nothing really explicit
There's an omnibus that collects the first 2 hardcovers but I don't know how easy it is to find, probably your best bet is to pick up the Vol. 1 hardcover since it's the first complete (and still one of the best) story arc
as someone who has only read up to the fourth hardcover, I'm confused by that blue and black costume with robot limbs
what's up with that?
You'll have to read beyond the fourth hardcover to find out! Or....
Kirkman takes Invincible on a cross-dimensional adventure that results in lost limbs and a new symbiote-like costume. He admits that it is slightly derivative of the original Secret Wars, but responded to such criticism in his letter column by telling his readers to "Fuck off fanboys".

I'm a big fan of Bellegarde, but Eve's got a pretty masculine face there.
I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, as some women just have faces like that, and a good scowl can contort the facial features a good deal. But it doesn't really match how he draws her in the interiors.

It's really quite good.

It's never quite drawn me in, and I've heard the violence can get somewhat gratuitous at times.

He switched to the blue and black when his tailor decided it looked better, and the robot limbs are casts to help him heal from recent injuries.

Why is Cecil still in charge of anything? I wouldn't trust him to manage a McDonald's at this point
It's very much wall-to-wall "setting up plot points" though
uh
