Why Erich, I am offended by your hostility. How dare I take the advice given in this forum...what unmitigated gall...

If I were a more spiteful person I would consider changing my vote to ensure that you get Day 1'd, again. But honestly, I think you're doing a fine job of building the case against you on your own.

And if you're so convinced that I should be tossed, why haven't you changed your vote from Timmer to me?

For those of you who have no idea what Kay and I are referring to, you should check out his work in the just-completed Timeline phalla. It was glorious. (That link takes you to what I think was the first post...they got progressively more complex and perplexing as the days progressed).

Personally I do not mind if the lime retraction is not present. The lime retracting is there for people that arn't counting vote in a spreadsheet. People that are trying to vote count by hand have a harder time knowing what the count is without the retractions. I have a column next to all of your names with who you voted for that is updated for every red vote in the thread.

Right, general mafia advice this time.

If one of your teammates is being strongly bandwagoned or has gotten a seer result against them, it is typically considered unwise to try to save them with either voting for the second place or arguing in his favor. When your teammate dies (as they invariably will either that day or a future day from the vig taking initiative), your defense of this person will be a giant red flag. Sometimes, you just have to cut your losses and accept that this person is going to die.

Now, if the vote count is close or if there is enough uncertainty behind why your teammate is being voted, you may consider saving them with votes on the second place or arguments for why someone else appears more guilty. Be careful when doing so, however, for the same reasons as above. Once someone acquires suspicion in a given game, it practically never disappears, so once again when this person finally dies, observant villagers can and will spot you for your defense of them.

On the main forum page, the number of replies for the thread is a hyperlink. Click on it and you'll get a list of how many posts each person has.

This can be very useful in some games where you want to kill off Borderline inactives.

The way I've always done it is to go to the main CF Forum, then click 'Replies' next to the topic. That should give you a pop-up with the info I pasted in above.

Post count info can be very useful for determining who's maintaining borderline activity across a number of days, as such a thing may drop off the radar if you're not already specifically looking for it. *What* this borderline activity actually signifies can be a number of things, from village special hiding, mafia members hiding, serial killer hiding, or someone just being repeatedly quiet in every game they play for whatever reason.

Yeah that's right someone else gets to be helpful.

A general recommendation for phallas in general; be kind to your host, and send in Vig/Guard/Seer orders in early if possible. It sometimes allows hosts in narration heavy games to have extra time to write up what they need to, and the next day will start earlier. That said, never be afraid to change your orders if you have any last minute doubts. It's best to make sure you're completely happy with your choices, even if they're just hunches.

As an addendum, it is generally wise from a logistics point of view to send in contingency orders as soon as the day starts (or as soon as the game starts depending on your ability!). You never know what might happen that would prevent you or a teammate from sending in real orders later in the day. Games have been lost by people screwing around and then suddenly remembering the deadline and sending in an order a minute late.

The village wants to kill evil people and people who refuse to vote for evil people and people who don't talk much and people who jump into bandwagons for no real reasons. and a couple of others that i'm not remembering.... don't do any of those either.

If someone votes for you, take it lightheartedly. If a bandwagon forms on you, don't make a big deal of it. Many a time it's looked certain someone was going to die from a vote, only for the village to decide "Hang on, he's too resigned about being voted off, maybe we're looking at the wrong person here."

There's no fool proof way to avoid being voted for, but every person has their unique way of at least trying to avoid it.

in phalla, if you don't seem to be competent people will vote you off because they think you are pretending to be incompetent and are therefore evil.

If you're a vanillager (vanilla villager, someone with no abilities), don't listen to Dunadan's first sentence. At all. Unless you're in one of those tragic games where even vanillagers need to survive to the end to achieve victory, it should be your goal to help the village as much as possible before the mafia take you out for being too helpful, too dangerous, or because they think you're a special. Either way, your death saves a special for another day.

Also, if you're a villager and being heavily bandwagoned, you should try to avoid it at least a little (since you know you're innocent), but know that your unfortunate death will still give the village as a whole another day's worth of important voting patterns to pick through.

Mafia are also aware of this, however, so be mindful from a meta standpoint.

A key ingredient of a good Phalla player is the realization that if you get the mafia to waste one of their kills on you, and you're a vanillager, that's good.
