the foreman has been pushing for me to get some time in on a mill
but all our milling work is the real high dollar jobs, so the big boss doesn't want me in there fucking it all up with my lack of mill experience
it's a little quicker/easier to fix your mistakes on a lathe, so I guess that makes sense
get your ass on that mill for some cheap jobs though

Seriously, how many of you nancy boys don't honestly know what a machinist does? How hard is it to figure out that it's a person who machines parts for various industrial products. Like pieces for cars, dump trucks, grinding machines, mixing tanks, and all that grow on trees.
Wait, you went through the whole apprenticeship thing? I didn't think they did that any more.
i started as a spray hand, which was just babysitting the hvof metal spray system
then i got moved up to simple centering and grinding shit for metal spray
i did my first fabrication job and didn't fuck it up so the boss says, 'congratulations, you're a real machinist now, we're gonna change your position title and get you some cool stuff and some big dollar training so don't fucking quit'

knob weren't you a cable TV worker like 4 months ago
like
a year and a half ago
Then according to old angry guys you're technically a machine hand, but it doesn't matter any more because nobody does the true apprentice shit. Even my 61 year old father never did it, and he's been a machinist for like 40 years. Congrats though, it's a good skill and kept my old man employed for years even with his fuck you attitude.

yeah, knob
do you just eat apples and smoke cigarettes as a diet

Machinists are the blacksmiths of our day.
You go in and say "I need a +3 sword of spider slaying"
and he goes "that'll be 150 gold pieces."
then you give him your money and he laughs at you because a sword of spider slaying is actually a shoe.
Its not hard. Which knob you turn determines which direction you want to carve off metal. It's like a 3-D etch-a-sketch.

well I mean I can use a program to do that so you don't even have to really turn any knobs
it's all X0Y3.4 and shit
what would you do if you met these people in the woods
Point and laugh
we have a few guys that got started on cnc machines
they go all retarded when you make them turn something on a manual machine
it's cute
