Are there any insectoid playable races yet in 4e?

Because I kinda want to have a tyranid styled character

Possibly a shaman who has spore mine spirit companions

Or, I dunno, a lictor styled rogue or a ranger with some sort of nasty motherfucker of an "animal" companion

I might fuck around with the warforged a bit, so you can have effectively a genetic warforged. Adding on parts to his body and all that.

    they're level five monsters

blue-collar workers just punching the clock, guarding this room of a dungeon because their boss said to.

Sometimes they have specific objectives, like "don't let anybody open this chest" and if they do it, they get a bonus at the end of the session, like a cot that allows one player to refresh one daily power once, but they wake up dazed the first round of the fight because they were still asleep. Or a handful of crates to arrange strategically to provide cover. Stuff like that.

We're working up to having a story that goes along with it, and eventually I'll have another dungeon piece or two (once summer semester is over, hopefully) that'll connect to this one.

I really want to have a second dungeon done before PAX, I've got a great idea for a huge-scale adventure for like ten or more players.

the only problem I have with the dungeon so far is where to store it. I can't make it too deep/tall, as I need to be able to stash it on top of our china hutch thing that came with the apartment. Otherwise I'd have made it multi-level with a bunch of cool features.

But right now, man, it's nearly done and ready to seal and paint. One room needs tiles glued down and I need to do some detail work, but it's about four hours of work away from laying down the first layer of glue sealant so I can start spraypainting.

I've got plans, man. Have some faith.

They'll often be sent on other excursions, like "oh shit we're low on food, go raid the neighboring farmlands, but be careful, those motherfucking humans are racist as shit and won't even trade with us, so we gotta steal, and they fucking kill on sight".

Or "shit, there's a scout party spotted at the bottom of the mountain, if they get away they'll lead a huge raiding party straight to the dungeon and they'll steal all our shit and kill our fucking children!"

and it isn't just heroes they fight. There's competing clans of orcs and shit, a while ago someone deeper in the dungeon accidentally unearthed a wave of kruthik, a young blue dragon came investigating rumors of treasure in the dungeon, etc. Who is to say they don't run into maurading bands of undead, or any number of other beasts and hazards? Maybe a cult of orcus wants the lair for their stupid blood god worshipping and shit? There's very few limitations to what we can really do with this, and giving them a central location, especially one that looks as good as this, that they can improve upon, really gives them a sense of ownership over the battlefield.

Basically this. That is an awesome idea, how do you keep a story going though? only way I can think of to keep it interesting in one place is would be to have a wide variety of heroes to kill, but that can only take you so far. then again, I'm no DM

There's very few limitations to what we can really do with this, and giving them a central location, especially one that looks as good as this, that they can improve upon, really gives them a sense of ownership over the battlefield.

i want to play this more badly than anything

perhaps as Grugnug the orc prodigy, smartest in his tribe, who learned to spell his name at the tender age of 25
    come on up, mang

best part of this campaign is that it's super easy to be all "oh the bugbear, yeah it's his day off. This is Gnarshflargraphak, he's the new guy, he'll be taking over Blargnifilikargh's shift. He was working in the mines for a while, but he's got a touch of the ol' black lung."
