I didn't think there was anyone left that hadn't read Life of Pi yet!
Don't they give it out in the street in CA??
I have been putting it off for years!

(Just like watching Dirty Dancing, which I have also managed to avoid but for different reasons! :P )

I actually didn't like it all that much.
I didn't like that you [apparently] needed to have read what the author said about it in order to really "get" it. It's a very "book club" book, i'd be interested to see what you make of it!

    Yeah, I'd agree with this.

I dunno, I think it functions pretty well on its own. You have to read the preface, yeah, but that's really part of the story. I didn't really read anything by the author that wasn't in the book, and I still enjoyed it. Then again, I liked Hatchet.

    I felt this way, too!

I truly like Pride and Prejudice, however. Emma is my favourite, and it took me a long time to really get into Austen at all, but I have absolutely no issue with Pride and Prejudice by itself. P&P&Z did add some balls jokes, as I said before, and that was alright by me because my inner eight-year-old is amused by them. Otherwise it was entirely unimpressive.

Also, I never read any Escapist comic book; where'd you get it? And I'll just continue to be the sole individual who enjoyed the second half of Kavalier and Clay... I'm okay with that. (No I'm not.)

Maybe if I write Mr. Vaughan a little letter he will send me a copy.

Or maybe if I hit up every comic book store between Detroit and Chicago while I'm home, I'll stumble across one.

Michael Chabon’s Pulitzer Prize–winning The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay (2001) is the story of two Brooklyn cartoonists whose World War II–era comic books feature a Houdini-like superhero called the Escapist. Vaughan and a first-rate art team craft an inventive spin-off from Chabon about a contemporary comic-book writer’s efforts to revive Kavalier and Clay’s legacy. When his father dies, Cleveland-based elevator repairman Matt Roth spends his entire inheritance buying the Escapist’s trademark rights. Using the artistic chops of a potential girlfriend he meets on an elevator job and the lettering skills of his best friend Denny, Roth hopes to introduce the Escapist to a new generation of superhero fans. Yet when a publicity stunt featuring Denny in an Escapist costume goes haywire, the collaborators’ sudden success spirals downward toward imminent bankruptcy. Vaughan neatly slips several superbly drawn faux Escapist adventures into the proceedings, and a fanciful introduction by Chabon describes how a chance meeting with Sammy Clay launched Vaughan’s career in comics.

is what that comic is about

Yeah, that was definitely my problem with it

It's not that I disliked it, it had some great parts, and was definitely put together well overall

It just wasn't the same as the first half of the book, which was a bit jarring at times
