The game is stupid fun. It's not going to win game of the year, or even action game of the year. It is a solid 7/10 game that will occupy your time for maybe a weekend. The gameplay is essentially "keep Rubi's combo going", and even on hard this is not difficult to do. The story is cool, the characters are interesting and the voice acting (other than Dushku's - per usual) is pretty well done. For most, a solid rental.

"Challenging" suggests fairness to me - a'la God Hand. This is more "I hate this fucking game," which actually came out of my mouth. I'm still gonna' try the hardest difficulty level, but I won't feel I'm any less of a gamer should it defeat me with its idiotic designs.

    Hiyaa! Ninja edit:
I should note that after playing through on Normal I was very happy with the game. I'll buy it one day in the future at a very reduced price, and just enjoy Normal (or perhaps Easy) mode as a guilty pleasure.

Hmm yes well, noted! If I do pick this up I'll probably just not bother with the harder difficulties then. I enjoy a challenging game, but cheapness is never a good thing.

I'm loving this game from story to music (especially the music as a preorder bonus they give you 5 tracks and they are solid) I'm loving the arkhams insane.

And yeah not playing this harder I play for fun.

Weird. My complaints with the games design comes from some kinda stupid gameplay mechanics; for example the falling out of the airplane scenario which is just one big "memorize the movements" moment, instead of a fun dynamically changing encounter. At the very least, the combat is pretty simplistic. . .even the arena modes (including the sections of the map where you are meant to wall run, except Rubi can only wall run a certain distance and will eventually fall into fire/electricity).

I really liked that plane segment, it kept me on my toes. The car chase segment with all the guys on motorcycles on the other hand, not so much. As for that wall run thing, if you push the left stick forward and jump at the end of the wall run, Rubi will jump forward past the fire/electricity/gap.

And going from wallrun to jump + killing = big bonus points. Same with jump -> slide + kill. Wallrun -> jump -> slide can get you down some long hallways without leaving slo-mo. :^:

Also - I liked the plane section in concept but I thought it coulda' been executed better. Though "here's your fucking book" is easily Dushku's best delivery in the whole game.

Wrote up a review if anyone's interested.

Short version: a few really great ideas, phenomenal soundtrack, but wonky mechanics and some real frustration. It's definitely worth a rental, and perhaps a purchase - but only at a reduced price.

Yeah the machinegun one was driving me nuts, because I kept screwing it up. I mean they help you pull off the moves in the upcoming sections of the game, doesn't make them any less annoying. At least the crossbow part wasn't that bad, even if the crossbow was useless (in a game about holding down the trigger till everything dies, a weapon like that just doesn't work).

It seems like an odd inclusion to have what amount to time trial/challenge stages in the middle of the game, even though I've had a little fun with them, it really breaks the flow down a bit. The first one I could almost understand since they work it into the context of the story, but I thought it went on a bit long. If they were skippable I'd much prefer it.

Yeah that was my issue, even if they occurred months earlier, I don't like having to run the time trial during the game as it does break up the story parts.

Apparently this was on sale for less than 20 dollars on Amazon recently as part of a deal. I probably would buy this game at 20. Just played the demo, and while the controls are a little unwieldy, I wanted to keep going. I kept dying in the big room with the spawn points though. That was a bit annoying.

Still one of the most under-rated games of the year for me. Horribly, horribly flawed, but with enough real genius in there I'd be all over a sequel. Plus Long Tall Texans' Adventure is one of my new favourite songs.

This is one of those new IP's where the sequal is going to be kick ass awesome. There's a lot of potential here, the style and action is really cool, but the gameplay feels a little outdated and sloppy. Constantly being in slow-mo and then going fast, then slow, then fast, then slow, is kind of annoying as well. The gunplay is neat, but its repetative, and i think they need more opportunities for the sword to be used in a cool way.

The game seems more of a rental to me than a purchase, i couldnt see myself replaying something that is so very much "on rails" like this. It's not bad though, and the sound track is awesome and makes you feel awesome when you are doing a flip kick into a mans face and then pumping 10 bullets into his forehead while flying through the air. Also that car section was extremely fun to me.

    Allright.

    Wet.

Here's what it is. You're a nearly infinitely pissed off asiatic woman with a giant tassled katanna and two very fast guns. You like to jump in the air and shoot people in the balls, jump off thier budies face, shoot him in the head, wall run behind the next dude's back and chop him and his three buddies in half at once.

And then you jump on a car and re-enact the best parts of the Lethal Weapon series that never happened at roof jumping speed.

And then a guy is running down the hall screaming his head off and you blow him away and get spattered in blood and MY BABY'S LOST CONTROL, SHES A DANGER TO HERSELF AND TO SOCIETY and rampage in red and black vision through 80 guys at once and then you grab a vulcan turret and blow up a giant tie dye black light voodoo tiki mask turned into a warehouse and rip off a guys hand and you know what just play the damned thing.

    Its good.

The game oozes style, and it's got its moments. But there's some bits that almost ruin the whole experience for me. I'm halfway through chapter 8, and I'm not sure if the good bits are worth wading through the rest of the game.

If it had launched at say, 40 bucks, I think that would have been just about perfect. I enjoyed this enough to play through it once on normal and then mess around with the other modes a bit.

I wish that the slow-mo mechanic had been a little more refined and that the swordplay had a little more meat to it.

So borroed this from work on Sunday and finally finished it today, was stuck forever on the first arena where swordsmen show up until I finally figured out how to seal that top door. Was an ok ride, just like a Quentin Tarantino film, I notice Borderlands using a similar style of introducing characters to. It just seemed to fall apart at the end, I don't recall facing the Kollector or dealing with Zhi, they both disappeared and theres like...no ending. Is that how its supposed to be?

No replay value in it though, the unlockables are pretty worthless and its not fun enough to play through a second time, certainly not on any higher difficulty.

I posted about this game in the "most dissappointing games" thread. I personally hated it, but a $12.00 price tag may have made it more acceptable.

The thing is; the game gets progressively worse as more platforming is introduced in later levels. I thought the vehicle segments were kinda cool though.

Greatly enjoyed it, myself, as I think my previous posts indicate. It's rough around the edges, but I paid full price and wasn't that bothered. I still own it. One of the greatest soundtracks ever, the dated graphics still look fairly pretty, and even though it's painfully derivative and the plot's nonsense it's still an atmospheric little ride. The gameplay mechanics certainly aren't good enough to hold up to real long-term play, but I still tried a bit of score attack and liked it. Might well go back at some point now I've seen this thread being bumped.

My main problem with it was after initially being blown away by the highway QTE levels, Uncharted 2 then came along and did pretty much the exact same thing but visually better, lasting for longer and more or less fully interactive. :x It's a good effort, but the developers' inexperience and limited budget is painfully apparent.

This is the only game I have ever resold.

Luckily I determined that it was terrible early and recovered a great deal of the original purchase (full) price.

I really dug the concept, but I couldn't get over the execution. You have to kill people in slomo, which leads to you doing all sorts of ridiculous things like sliding on your knees and when you're done, immediately sliding on your knees again.

A lot of the problems I had with the game were because I'm not great at console shooters, so I'd almost never kill someone right away. I lent it to a couple friends before it sold (glyde is great, btw) and they seemed to enjoy it, so I feel like I got my money's worth (when you consider the differential in purchase and resale price).
