worst thread title ever for me. My senior year we did Kiss me Kate, and the same people who always get the same leads got the leads again, and because I was going to see Wicked on the day of the show and might be late, the director casted me and my best friend, guys who had been in Drama for 4 years, helped set up stage and lights and been in every freaking play, bit parts as janitors, we got to say "A chance for Stagefolk to say hello" I was very bitter.

I always enjoy musical theatre when I actually sit and watch/listen to it, but for some reason I never get the urge to do that regularly

I am seeing Avenue Q tonight though, which is going to be awesome!

I quite like Les Miserables, I started listening to it after I performed a song from it as part of my singing lessons a couple of years ago. (Empty Chairs at Empty Tables)

Also I got the soundtrack for Sweeney Todd after enjoying the movie and after seeing NPH do a song from it on Youtube.

I'd love to write a musical one day about something like robots

    www.protomen.com

    beat you to it

    also I'll see you tonight

also also there's going to be a fairly expensive amateur production of Les Mis on soon in Dandenong, if you want to see the show I'd check it out, it's the closest you'll get to professional

alsocubed, don't for the love of god do NOT see Sweeney Todd on stage

every cut the movie made was a good cut, except for maybe the Ballad of Sweeney Todd

One thing I can't do is listen to a soundtrack and judge whether or not I like it. I need to see the show to really appreciate the songs.

When I listen to a song after seeing a show it holds more emotion in context and reminds me how it affected me at the time. Just listening to a soundtrack sans seeing a show just doesn't work for me.

This is a general thing and not aimed at anyone

I will write a musical about... seaweed. Has that been done yet?

Also I might check out that Les Mis production, that would be pretty awesome.

I think that it depends on the show for me. Sometimes the music or at least a couple of songs are good enough to make me enjoy a whole album - actually, I would say that since I don't have a lot of money or access to theatres hereabouts, usually I start listening to a show before I ever see it onstage. But there are definitely shows which have more impact when you see them live. I think generally the music from Chicago is better, but Cabaret has more strength as a stage show, for instance!

Gonna go ahead and post some more songs from musicals now.

    Uh-oh, it's Elaine Page

Mega-eighties disclaimer for that one. Especially when the dancing (if you want to call it that) starts.

As gay as I am for musicals and Anthony Stewart Head. Even after I led my own hype vehicle for the movie. I found absolutely no redeemable qualities in Repo.

    Except this was wonderfully campy

I deliberately avoided finding out anything at all about Repo, so the extent of my knowledge is now the two songs posted here, the fact that it is widely disliked, and that it is, in some manner, a Genetic Opera.

I claim to dislike Moulin Rouge, but it's secretly sort of catchy and likeable - certainly the most catchy and likeable thing Baz Luhrmann has ever done. I would also watch Ewan MacGregor eat toast and enjoy it.

    While I'm confessing:

seen this a few times, too
