It was because of a car trying to overtake another car. So they could have either gone head first into the car or the lady. More importantly the lady thought someone else was in the car. Someone who would have slowed down and came to her aid. It's mentioned earlier in the novel that Daisy is a careless driver so to say that she could be involved in the accident is anything but a stretch.

I guess by enjoy I meant do you really fucking like reading some baller ass shit about dudes doing a thing. Outside of you know. . science fiction.

Just curious because we are quite divergent.

unfortunately it took me a long time to read Gatsby because someone spoiled the ending a long time ago. despite loving Fitzgerald it felt like a chore to read it for a while knowing what I knew.

but hey it was still almost a surprise.

I need to read that chapter again.

I'm totally up for reading some baller ass shit. The problem is that, often, that which is maintained to be "baller ass shit" is sometimes just fucking lame. So rather than read something new I'll just read Hitchhiker's Guide or Harry Potter again.

I'm not too keen on trying new things.

I think the only thing I've gone out of my way to read were Star Wars novels in high school. Other than that your usual nerd fare of Hitchhikers, Dirk Gently, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, Catcher in the Rye, etc.

I've never gone out of my way to find literature to read. If someone hands me something and says "read this" and I don't have anything else to do I will read it. But usually when I think "Man, i need to read something" I go to my pile of philosophy texts and find something in there.

I think I would say that I enjoy literature in the same way that I enjoy wine. If someone gives it to me I'll enjoy it and fixate on it while I have it. But left to my own devices I will probably not obtain anything new.

Down By Law is good stuff. My favorite Jarmusch is Mystery Train though.

He used to visit Kansas City a lot in the mid-80s, and hang out in Westport (the hipster area). My mom used to point him out to me when he was walking down the sidewalk sometimes.

Catcher in the Rye is awful.

Catcher in the Rye is fantastic if your mental development ended at around 18 years old when you come to the realization that you have to live the rest of your life without getting to do what you truly desire to do.

It's also pretty good if you like The Cure.

I figured they did it specifically for tourist. In a sorta patronizing way. The way I assume the planes in hawaii give people lei's when they get there. ( I really dont know if they do that, i just base that knowledge off of the brady bunch movie).

No but seriously Catcher in the Rye?

I once had a professor tell me, "Holden Caulfield is a fuck. You're not Holden Caulfield."

It is entirely possible that, on this issue, they were mistaken.

I think Catcher in the Rye is worth reading at least once. Or, really, just commit to reading the first chapter. Your reaction to that will indicate what you'll think of the rest of the book.

The Sons of Lee Marvin is a secret society devoted to iconic American actor Lee Marvin.[1] The entry criterion for the club is that the person must have some physical resemblance or plausibly look like a son of Marvin—as such, women are not allowed to join.[2] As founding member and film director Jim Jarmusch explains, "if you look like you could be a son of Lee Marvin, then you are instantly thought of by the Sons of Lee Marvin to be a Son of Lee Marvin".[3] Other founding members of the society reportedly include actors and musicians Tom Waits, John Lurie, and Richard Boes, all collaborators of Jarmusch.[4][5][2]

    I love The Cure.

I hate catcher in the rye. There's no substance. The protagonist (if you dare call him that) is lacking in every respect and he's intended to be the driving force of the novel. Salinger went into seclusion for a reason and it's because he's knows god damn well what he did and regrets that it can not be undone.

    Your professor was correct.

I love when they're singing in the jail cell and dancing around. Also when they go back for Benigni in the swamp. The ending is also quite good. The whole thing plays out like a much more interesting Stranger Than Paradise.

Plus it got me into Rain Dogs.
