I haven't looked into any of the characters. If you asked me to name them I could only give you Rookie, Dutch and apparently Buck which was JUST mentioned. I'm not gonna choose a favourite til I play.
So I have done something unique with this Halo sequel.
Unlike Halo 2 and Halo 3, I didn't glean every single piece of information about the games before they released, participate in any viral marketing, and read the novels they released in the interim hoping that there was some glimmer of an insight into the game that I could hold over others before release.
I know almost nothing about this game. I know it's about Helljumpers, and it takes place right after Regret takes off into Slipspace and annihilates New Mombasa. I know the Pistol is back. That's about it.
The past two releases I have been massively disappointed in Halo. In Halo 2, I looked forward to the moon levels they promised, and the fights on Earth (which, from what I've seen in the original teasers, looks to be what they're promising here too). In Halo 3, I had insanely high hopes for the story to come together in a coherent and ultimately satisfying way.
My expectations for Halo 1 were nil. I loved it. My expectations for Halo 2 and Halo 3 were extraordinarily. I hated them. Sure, you could attribute Bungie's loss of insight as the reason these games didn't live up to all they could be in my mind, but I think at least part of the reason I was disappointed has something to do with the Peter Molyneux effect. I got excited about features they just couldn't deliver on.
So I have no expectations for Halo: ODST. I am going to buy it, play it, and enjoy it for what it is. Here is hoping it can capture some of the magic I felt when I first played Halo 1 eight years ago. Hope to see some of you guys online, too!

Dammit! ODST is so far the only other game I'm doing a midnight release for. The previous one was Halo 2. And I was stationed in Guam so I was literally one of the first people in the world to play it.
Hell, my old clan creation date was a day before release.
I saw what appeared to be 7.34 trillion Johnson codes in a big stack at my Gamestop. I might carpet my house with them someday.
I hope this ends up happening at ours, the employee who took my pre-order was like "Well.. You might want to get here early, we aren't sure we'll have enough for all of our pre-order customers."
If you check the guys other vids he has a whole video where that came from. At the end a Brute Chieftan hammers a guy into the sky and he goes "Oh Gooood".

We can always hope it's some super secret in game unlock, right? :winky:
Sad times. Console link is for chumps and people with way more money than I have. At least I can invite one buddy over to wreak havoc with me.
Stupid cheap friends with their families to provide for and monetary responsibility. *grumble grumble*
Man, you know that's not gonna happen.
It would actually be pretty fucking rad if you god the different helmets for your avatar though. I could be Buck everywhere

But look at these guys. 3 hours of Legendary Firefight.
Edit: And with 4 players they go for almost 4 hours:

I'm not sure how I unlocked the lack of helmets in Firefight, but I think it's

You should totally come by the library before we close at 8.

You and I are going to get along great.
Anyways, I am really hoping I get the Johnson code, our Game Stop was hesitant to say how many they got in.
Did you have to preorder the special version or the regular one? Either way, I am probably out of luck as I can't pick up at midnight.
We can be "we're-buying-the-game-tomorrow" people.

I've been emailed a code from a chain I've not pre-ordered from. o_O
On the other hand, didn't all those GoW2 Golden Lancer codes get snapped up like whoa. Ended up going for like twenty quid a piece.
