I found the Bowser stuff pretty easy to avoid/counter. Every once in a while I would get the timing wrong on countering his punch attacks but other than that it was pretty smooth sailing. I think I only used 3 hot wings to boost myself back up during the fight and was never very close to dying.

SMT: Strange Journey's coming in March.
IRVINE, CALIFORNIA -- NOVEMBER 5, 2009 -- Atlus U.S.A., Inc. today announced Shin Megami Tensei®: Strange Journey™, a first-person science fiction RPG for Nintendo DS™. A startlingly original entry in the award-winning Shin Megami Tensei universe, Strange Journey takes the heralded RPG franchise to exciting new frontiers. The game has already released in Japan to strong demand and critical acclaim, earning a 10/9/9/8 from Famitsu, the highest score the popular magazine has ever awarded a Shin Megami Tensei title.
In the near future, a mysterious, growing, black void appears at the Earth's southern pole. Unable to determine its cause and powerless to stop its deadly encroachment, humanity sends an elite team of explorers into the heart of the phenomenon, just as Strange Journey's look and feel represent a return to the heart of Shin Megami Tensei, bringing to mind the all-time classic Nocturne™. With over 300 demons to bribe, coerce, and negotiate with to gain assistance in battle, Strange Journey is every bit the deep, rewarding RPG experience fans have come to expect from the SMT franchise, yet delivered with a fresh new sci-fi story that taps into mature themes of morality and introspection.
Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey for Nintendo DS is currently scheduled for release in Spring 2010.
then do that on your own by accident, it's more satisfying

Also regarding Chrono Trigger
Fuck that Megamutant up its tentacled rear end. I can not defeat it. Oh well, until I'm leveled up enough I'm traveling around doing shit. Next on the list, rename Frog to Glenn.

Man am I getting sick of the neverending SERIOUS GRIMDARK in SMT
That's probably why I really enjoyed P4

It's not really neverending. The only one that's been utterly bleak is Nocturne. The rest have just really screwed up settings.
Devil Summoner 3 & 4 are practically happy go lucky by SMT standards.

when do I get more panel slots, without spoiling anything
if that is possible
You should start getting them after you beat a mission, can't remember what day, though. You get one per mission, and more can be unlocked from challenges etc.
I'm pretty sure that it goes to 4 pages of them, but it might only be three.
edit welp.

Made it to the 6th floor in Dark Spire! Found a ring to complete a quest! Got an awesome bow! Forgot to save and got assfucked by a bunch of dragons!
6th floor? My god. I couldn't make it halfway through the second.
I've made it to the 30th in EO1 and beaten Wizardry PS2. I can handle Dark Spire.
I hope.

I will say again that Glenn has the best theme in video games history.

There are warp tiles. They do not tell you where these tiles warp you to. There are a lot of them.
This is a game where save-states are almost a necessity.

only on mario and luigi, which hardly matters for that fight
however, magikoopa + way too many star candies to worry about = lol

also, kingdom hearts is way tougher than I thought it would be
no, forget them

oh wait
this may be the best typo
It's got demon negotiations and first person dungeons. They haven't been in an SMT game since Nocturne. (Excluding Persona 1's remake)
As for original, it's got a sci-fi atmosphere as opposed to post-apocalyptic. It's certainly different for them.
Also, it was reportedly going to be SMT IV, except it's not set in Japan, so they just gave it a main series tag.
Anyway, it's not like Devil Summoner [PS2]. That's an action RPG. Unless you mean the original Devil Summoner, in which case; yeah, it's like that.
I hadn't considered how the sci-fi element might affect things, however.

Oh, another plus for SJ: it's using the Etrian Odyssey mapping engine.
It seems Square learned its lesson about KH2 being too easy.

The first one was the best since you could sic monsters on dudes
Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.
Well, the anime dating at least.

well like, I was just not prepared to get my shit wrecked in like 3 hits from a goddamn shadow
I'm on day 25 now and it's gotten easier, but man
the first few missions are brutal if you fuck up
also, the way lvling up works is weird, and I'm not really sure I like it
You get level multipliers after a bit that make it go much better.
You also get to a point where your level-ups take more than one page.
Well, I managed to beat the game before it got to that point so I don't think it's that big a deal.
if that is possible

FUCK
been keeping me steadily entertained on the train rides to and from work
I'd sell you my copy but no one in their right mind would pay me what I'd want for it.
That said if you're batshit insane and have a few hundred grand you're looking to spend lemme know :P
