different speech wise, i am looking forward to see palin speak/crash when she is at the tea party convention trying to get the tea party to join the republican party (and to take 100k)
Obama also acknowledged and accepted blame for the limited transparency in the last step in the process.
[paraphrasing]: "It's a ridiculously complex process across many buildings and offices, but I should have worked harder to make it possible to document."
More importantly, he gave a lot of them an out to vote with the Democrats. I can see the campaign ads now:
"I took the President to task on [issue], and got the answers and action you demanded. I voted for it, and now you're starting to see the benefits."

Honestly this will not matter unless its picked up by the daily show, then the colbert report... and tomorrow by regular news stations, depending on how they spin it. But it makes me so glad to see/hear obama getting feisty.

I don't think the media gives two shits what Stewart/Colbert covers.

Astoundingly, CNN has been pretty good about it so far.
Yeah I was mainly just choosing a non fox news aggregator. Fox News I'm sure plans to lead with a bunch of shame on you for trying to run the government who do you think you are Rupert Murdoch pieces.
I think Alec Baldwin needs to give his Glenn Gary speech to the democrats.
"Coffee is for legislation closers."

The problem with pay-go is that when you need deficit spending (as we do) it really should be suspended. It's a great rule for when the economy is doing well though.

Self-righteousness is incompatible with coalition building.
I’ve embraced the vision of John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan through a strategy that reverses the spread of these weapons and seeks a world without them (nuclear weapons).”
All I could think was "Holy shit Obama just compared himself to Reagan. Is the right wing going to explode?"
Saint Reagan is an ideal in the party not an actual party platform, as his ideals don't currently line up with his supporters. In a way he has become a lot like the Jesus to republicans, something you use to justify a line of thought they themselves would not support.

The left wing is more likely to explode at that one, honestly. Saying Reagan did something positive is a bad idea in the Democratic base.

The democratic base is much less ridiculous, and far more capable of separating those actions they liked from a person than those they did not.
Hell, if you look back at it, Reagan would probably be a democrat now.

Yeah, that's so wrong, I don't even know where to start.

I'm still waiting for Obama's
"From this point on, in the area of immigration, my policies are going to emulate those of the great Ronald Reagan..."
Republicans cheer.
"...and offer amnesty to the immigrants living in this country."
Republicans boo.
It would just so perfectly epitomize where we are as a country.
Obama's Q&A is Politico and the NYT's main story. Honestly, the stories don't do it justice. Some of the stuff he said (off the cuff, mind you, no teleprompters) was awesome.

Fox "News" was also decent for the minute I watched.
I'm going to start putting quotes there to avoid giving them credibility.
IMO Obama is trying to shame Republicans into breaking ranks by pointing out how absurd it is what they're doing. Now you may think that Republicans have no shame, but what if even one of them (in the Senate) does? The odd Republican here and there across the country has broken ranks, the their party is polling in the toilet. I can't imagine purple state Republicans are happy about this situation, and someone could get a whole lot of national press if they're the first to break ranks.
Here comes a sports analogy!
The GOP is playing the offside trap and pushing their line higher and higher up the field. It works until it doesn't. It's even a socialist (soccer) sports analogy.
There was that one House rep who voted for healthcare...
1) Only because of Stupak
2) His district is some absurdly Democratic district that he only won because the Democrats decided running the guy who stored his bribe money in his freezer was a fine plan.

I liked his answer to a question about the deficit where he interrupted the questioned after about a minute and a half.
"Is there a question in there somewhere? Because so far you've given me a bunch of talking points, half of which I disagree with, but I'm hoping you'll get to a question."
GOP lawmakers pressed the president to pledge to support a line-item veto for spending bills and across-the-board tax cuts.
I have to give whoever those Republicans were some "classy" points. Offering a line-item veto when the Democrats have the Presidency is principled.
It is also a moot point unless they think that the Supreme Court is suddenly going to decide that it is constitutional. It is like being willing to compromise on flag burning at this point.
Obama also returned to his point of how the polls have shown that individual stimulus components are popular, but not the total plan itself -- pointing out directly how this relates to GOP members of Congress. "As I said a lot of you have gone to ribbon cuttings for the same projects that you voted against," said Obama. "I say all this not to re-litigate the past, but it's simply to state, the component parts of the recovery act are consistent with what many of you say are important things to do."
"I am not an ideologue. I'm not," Obama also said."It doesn't make sense if somebody could tell me you could do this cheaper and get increased results, that I wouldn't say 'great.' The problem is, I couldn't find credible economists that would back up the claims that you just made."
whats even the point? An analogy is supposed to frame the discussion in a more simplistic easy to understand light. I have no idea what obama may or may not have accomplished in that scenerio...
just let me know when its time to yell GOOOOOOOALLLLLLLLLL!
If something like this had been done last July/August, I think things would be a lot different. At this point, however, Repub's fortunes are tied with Obama's failure, especially with regard to healthcare.
Still, it's awesome to watch him call them on their shit, even if nothing comes of it. It's a nice palate cleanser after a few shitty political weeks.

Why do people keep coming back to the line item veto when it was ruled Unconstitutional?
Because (and I just saw this on the video), the way it was phrased was that the proposal was a Constitutional amendment. Bipartisan between some Republican and Russ Feingold.
I think Obama finally realized it's time to stop being nice and take the gloves off.
yes, now that he is saying some snarky things to republicans he will surely change his impotent approach to policymaking
jesus christ, how many times does this song and dance have to go on
There is a significant chance you are right and that nothing at all will change and nothing will get done in the government for the next 3 years while the country slowly rots.
I choose to hope this isn't the case.
Yes, I know, LOL HOPIUM LOL. Not much else I can do right now.

Democrats kind of suck at educating the public. 26% of Americans know you need 60 votes in the Senate.

How is this line-item veto going to be different than the one SCOTUS has said is and unconstitutional violation of separation of powers?
