Can you guys explain handballs calls to me? My buddy is upset over the Fabiano goal because he says that for as long as he has been watching soccer, unintentional handballs have been called. Stuff I'm reading online points to some sort of "deliberate" clause in the rules. And apparently the refs disagree over it as well?
instead of people arguing about whether or not intent determines whether there's a fowl, read the rules yourself
It's no where near the ball, Kaka sees the other guy jogging towards him and instead of letting him pass he puts out his elbow and checks him. And from the way Kaka moves after the impact you can see that there was some force involved.
Should have been red.
conversely, it was no where near the ball so what was keika doing running into him?

'Unintentional handball' is a merky subject, iirc its usually allowed if
a)players hand is below the waist (i.e. arms aren't raised)
b)it wasn't deliberate, the player couldn't move in time.
But its very awkward to call. However Fabiano's handball (at least, the second one) seemed to me very deliberate.
edit: nvm, just follow Druhim's link. I expect its more correct then me.

You're talking total shit. He doesn't have to move out of the way, Keita ran into him.

What does that even matter? He's running somewhere and Kaka intentionally stays in his way with his elbow pointed out.

If the ref had seen it, it would have been a free kick. He didn't see it, and it took 3 replays before we saw it, so it's understandable that he couldn't see it in real time.

the fuck? thanks for proving that you're fucking insane
hey guys, from now on you have to get out of the way of an opposing player or it's a card!

oh yeah, not saying it was obvious and the ref sucked
just my opinion in hindsight is that it was intentional

He didn't even raise his arm above chest height, it's not even a foul.

oh definately, I completely missed it the first time of showing.

There is a difference between someone running into you and you staying in someones way and checking him with your elbow/shoulder.

Oh wait wrong football
HEHHHHHH

he channels the ball into his chest with his upper arm

Yeah, that document includes "deliberate".

damnit I wanted to make that joke
a situation made much worse based on his name alone
There's no room for that from the replay.
Also which referee saw the incident? the 4th official?
Keita absolutely did dive, but in my opinion, between the dissent and his previous combativeness, Kaka probably deserved sending off at some point.

Clear foul.

From the angle, all they would have seen is Keita fall over. The ref literally had nothing to base his decision on but what he saw after the incident.
see, I can get that argument
it makes sense
but there's no fucking way that wasn't a blatant dive and it was still disgustingly terrible sportsmanship
but that was a pretty ugly match all around
huh. Whats the precedure when none of the referees see it? Is it actually just a judgement call?
edit: I'm not too sure if Kaka did need sending off, but a quick word with the ref to calm him down certainly.
Maybe you are all blind.
It's idiotic, and boring.

No it fucking didn't. It wasn't even close.
20 points from Slytherin.

His chin maybe.
Definitely not his nose, which is what he was holding as he went down.
Based on that video alone, that cannot be argued.
Right here his shoulder hits Keitas face.
