I liked the animated shorts and wish this was a pilot for more SP animation instead of a tie-in promotion to a movie.
I do like how they lie about how the story will be continued in the movie when...it isn't. Anyone not named Scott Pilgrim or Kim Pine doesn't carry over from the shorts to the movie.
And yet that was STILL the most fun movie I've ever seen. The only negatives that come to my mind are nitpicks, and tiny things that don't really change the film at all for me. It was just so damn fun. I want to go again.
I read book one a few months ago and never got the others. Well, I have book two but haven't started.
Having only read one book, I loved this movie. In a way, you can kind of classify it as a video game-esqe movie. I was actually thinking that while watching.
I am definitely getting the rest of the books, the XBLA game, and going to track down a movie poster and other merch. Oh, and I am going to see it again next week.

Saw it at midnight, went into without any knowledge of how it actually deviated from the books, minor things aside, loved it. More thoughts later, bed now.
it was ok. i think overall it was way too ADD for my tastes. It was cut and edited like one big 2 hour trailer and maybe it was because I was tired and it was the midnight showing but it felt way too frantic and disjointed for me.
As far as specifics go
I feel my apprehensions about cera being scott were right on the money. He was ok but too much pitiful loser and not enough totally awesome dude. One of the things I originally thought was so compelling about scott's character is how legitimately awesome his life seems to be on the surface in volume 1. As you learn more about him, you learn that he can be not so great, but cera never managed to be awesome, only impotent. He never gave me a vibe that ever came close to matching
He never seemed adorable, just pitiful.
My other main gripe is that it rushed through the exes so quickly and left very little room for the viewer to really learn anything about these characters. I really think it would have worked much better as a 3 part movie, but I don't think edgar wright or anyone else was up for something like that. The character development just felt notably absent.
I also didn't care for knives and scott beating gideon together instead of scott and ramona.
overall, good effects, a pretty faithful adaptation, and entertaining to watch but way way way too fluffy. C+ for me
You act like you've never had to cram six books into one movie before

People in my theater really liked it. The fights were quite spectacular, but they character development understandably took a hit. I felt like Envy should have been a bigger deal than was portrayed on screen but I could see that generating a negative chord in a rockin' movie.
(During the previews the Devil-in-the-elevator trailor played and the audience duplicated the same groaning response when Shyamalan's name popped up. it was exquisite!)
They groaned, and then they started laughing!
I have chosen the word exquisite to describe it!
It was one of the funniest collective experiences I have had. The entire audience literally all groaned and started laughing at the same time. That was in Dallas. Was it the same elsewhere?
Just got back. I'm just putting it out there, but I actually liked it better than the comics. Especially the last battle, book 6 just seemed kinda...weird to me.
Just got back from seeing this. The theatre put on a battle of the bands before, which was pretty neat. The movie was awesome.
Also, at our theatre everyone groaned during the Devil trailer when Shyamalan's name popped up. And then laughed. It was possibly the best part of the night.
The MNS groaning happened when I went to see Inception, too. We were all watching this kind of "okay... what?" preview and it was all DIRECTED BY MNIGHTSHAMA-

"Maybe that’s the film’s unintentional joke: If Scott Pilgrim is the Everyman of the geek/gaming universe, does that mean we’re not as interesting as the worlds we like to inhabit?"
Why in the world would Scott Pilgrim be the Everyman of Geeks/Gamers?
He like barely plays games beyond wasting time with SMB and a PSP. If he's an everyman of anything, it's Unemployment.
Edit: He's also the best fighter, no geek is the best fighter.
Pretty sure the reviewer has not read the books, so this is in the context of the film, which almost universally seems to be taken as "about video games/geeks."

So goddamn angry that I'm going to be away at a wedding all weekend with my girlfriend and her family. The GF agreed to go see Scott Pilgrim if there's a moment of downtime, but I doubt that'll happen.
I really want to see it on opening weekend! I don't want to slink back to DC and see it on a Monday, when there's less audience energy! Maaaaaan

People are classifying Scott Pilgrim as a video-game movie. Is it really a video-game movie when it's not based on a video-game, but a comic-book?

I didn't say what I was going to use to peak it, now did it?
Mostly because of that whole "Superman" and "Chuck" thing I imagine, but still.
Also hoping to see the movie this weekend since plans to go to the early showing here got shot.
I was wondering why i didnt see you or Stef. I was a sad panda.
Work schedule got sort of jacked up at the last minute and we couldn't get it fixed in time.
Knowing that Jason Schwartzman was there just makes it burn that much more.
It'd be funny if I was sitting at the theater right now but no.
The only part I didn't care for
Everything else was gold!
I liked it!
My girlfriend (also a huge fan of Scott Pilgrim) hated it and hopes never to see it again!
I'll deliver more detailed impressions later, when we're not getting ready to go to sleep.
That first moment when they were playing Threshold and the title came up was so surreal. It was so perfect.

I knew how many people were saying it was great.
I knew the books back and front.
I knew the changes that they made for the movie.
And yet that was STILL the most fun movie I've ever seen. The only negatives that come to my mind are nitpicks, and tiny things that don't really change the film at all for me. It was just so damn fun. I want to go again.

Or they all died in an elevator crash lol
Man I actually would have loved it if Scott Pilgrim was a music. A ROCK BATTLE MUSICAL. It kinda was one already, but not quite.
Also, at our theatre everyone groaned during the Devil trailer when Shyamalan's name popped up. And then laughed. It was possibly the best part of the night.

Do I just suck at parrying attacks? I can never get it to work correctly
Also why doesn't the store show you what items do BEFORE you buy them?
