No matter that the new flag is it won't be as badass as Maryland's.
that's ugly, not badass
The Flag of the State of Maryland consists of the heraldic banner of George Calvert, 1st Baron Baltimore. It is the only state flag in the United States to be based on English heraldry. (While the flag of Washington, D.C. is a representation of the coat of arms of the Washington family, Washington, D.C. is not a state.)
That's right, we have actual British heraldry as our flag.
MD Flag (and DC flag, for that matter" both routinely show up on the short list of best and worst flag designs. Love it or hate it, it at least seems to grab everyone's attention.
DC, for refference, is based on Washington's own coat of Arms:

That's the DC flag? That's terrible. It looks like it was made in 5 minutes in MS Paint. Not that every flag should be elaborate (France, Germany, Russia, etc. are simple but still look cool) but you think they'd at least try to work BLUE into it somewhere.

You sound like a million board room execs who just don't "get it"
I'm aware of that but that still doesn't mean it's visually appealing. Of course nobody cares about city flags anyway but my hometown of like 2000 people had a better-looking flag than that.
Maybe I just hate the red-on-white field. It reminds me of matchbook covers and packs of cigarettes.

Flags shouldn't have people on them. They always end up looking like shitty clipart. This is especially true for anything that attempts to display anything complex like a boat. They also shouldn't have "In God We Trust" on them.

I love that one of the things on Georgia's flag is "Moderation".
Thats Georgia, always keeping themselves in check.

No. It's still butt-ugly.
It looks like a cross between something you'd see on a church and a crash test dummy.
What I am gathering from this thread is that state flags are uniformly terrible.
They really are.
It's cool to have pride in your state flag, but secretly we all know they're pretty bad.
As far as the American flag goes, I didn't realize how attached I was to it until people started advocating changing it (I'm not talking about adding a star for a new state, that's obviously something that happens) around dramatically.

It used to be the confederate flag. That's pretty moderate in comparison. :rotate:
Back when I had a Commadore64 I used to play Olympics games with my dad and I got really into flags. I had a flag book and everything. I always like Albania because seriously, what the fuck is that thing. Its like a mythical monster.
Im also a huge fan of Barbados because it looks like Aquaman's flag.

I say hells no to that.
I was going to argue that Colorado's flag looked ok.
Then I looked at it again. Sure it doesn't have any bears or eye-searing heraldry on it, but that big "C"...
Granted, it's not as bad as most state flags. I don't even know what I'm trying to say anymore.

That Georgia flag would have been OK without the other flags.
Personally I think navy blue and gold are pretty classy colors for flags, since they look official but not too loud.
My own state's flag is... alright. I prefer not to have human figures on a flag but it could be worse. Supposedly, the guy on the left is supposed to be a frontiersman, whereas the dude on the right is a statesman, and we're all equal or whatever. Sometimes they mess it up and portray both of the dudes as wearing suits, which kind of ruins it. I personally would rather have had a racehorse on it, but they even took those off of the license plates.
I would also prefer that the motto was in Latin, but it's actually a pretty good state motto, especially considering what happened there in the Civil War.
Still, my favorite is probably South Carolina's:
I don't know why, but it just looks cool and kind of mysterious.
It used to be really stupid, though, like a political cartoon that someone gave up on before they finished drawing it.

I mean look at these shits. If you removed the state name from the flag would you really be able to tell which state is which?
And why the fuck does New Hampshire have a boat? The state's coast line is about the size of my drive way!
A country perhaps, but you will never see a corporation as a state. States only get two senators.

I always thought California's flag wasn't too bad.
I mean.
It has a bear. Also, a star.
Oh, and words on it.
No nevermind that's terrible. The bear looks like he's moonwalking. Jesus.
It looks like a cross between something you'd see on a church and a crash test dummy.
Bear. Check
So, it's pretty obvious that California's flag is Russian propaganda. I can't have been the first to make this connection.
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
Steven Colbert must never go there.

It also doesn't help that the font used on the flag looks like it could go on the cover of Das Kapital.

It would mean Michelle Bachmann would no longer be a Congresswoman.

I have no problems with Arizona's flag.
But holy shit, Nevada's flag (circa 1902) looks like an ad on a geocities website:
Just turn the R around.
They tried to bury us. They didn't know that we were seeds. 2018 Midterms. Get your shit together.
It looks like an ad for a gold seller.
It is more moderate than having flags on your flag.

Japan made the British flag better.
And a brain for its heart.
