Given that the large landmass to the right of the middle is crazy mountainous, and otherwise unclaimed, I say we stripmine that bitch.
Just tell me when to start digging. Systematically demolishing an entire continent is how I got all the diamond I have on my single player map. Also once you finish the map you should edit in the picture labeling the territories to your opening thread, server info post.
Things I am planning on keeping, aside from Col/Rap:
Poultry_Geist's Obsidian Whale
Sweet! Thanks. He's nearing completion :-D
Don't know what it is you've built, but if you need obsidian feel free to pillage/destroy my house and/or basement cave (what's left of it) for it. If it's getting nuked anyway there's no reason for it to not get used on something that will make the transition.
It wasn't the biggest, it wasn't the prettiest, but it was the most visually distinct structure I saw, even when it was 1/3 complete on the big renders. And really I was more pleased with my 7+ obsidian farming systems in my cave below than my first attempt at a building. Learned a lot about the liquid "physics" and also learned that building with obsidian is a giant pain in the ass in every way imaginable.
Side note, I am really hoping we get mine carts working in SMP soon. Double-decker interisland minecart/footbridge road system anyone? Yes please.
I'm probably going to be building in the desert, which I'm hoping has very little resources like wood and Bamboo. So then I could gather those things on another island that, and then ship it overseas to a supply depot in the desert.
And people would obviously be needing glass, and the desert has tons of sand, so another set of minecarts could be going to the other islands supplying them with that.

Yeah Biomes will make getting sand and stuff really easy once they get in.

That was your house huh? I always wondered who took the time to get that much obsidian. I was staring at it all day while working on the liberty platform.
IMO, the least ridiculous would be deep water. but a giant, thin trench wouldn't be bad either to help people in long mines know they hit the boundry when they just dig down and take off in 1 direction.
I guess with MC.net down, now would be the opportune time to start moving structures over to the new map.
I'm just finishing putting a 6-wide sheer drop around the edges of the map into an adminium floor. It's discreet but obvious, and should be a nice boundary without fucking up any screenshots.
I'm finding the landscape on this new map to be pretty awesome.
I keep stumbling across caves everywhere, most don't go very deep but they have a lot of coal and iron.
I did find one that went pretty deep, ended up coming out with around 10 iron, two stacks of coal, 4 diamond, and something like 55 redstone.
Strange thing is I haven't encountered many monsters in the caves, but I can hear spiders and zombies everywhere, probably in little pockets scattered all around.

I have also been talking about doing this for days.
There ain't no Saguaro in Texas!
I could do it.
That might be a nice little adventure.

EDIT: But Notch needs to fix minecarts first

Ditto, just because Im foaming at the mouth for my digital legos does NOT mean I have a problem.
edit.. and also as per the above couple posts, I've been having minecraft dreams.
I had a dream about Minecraft two days ago.
When typing my username in the PA log in, I put Minecraft.

The Goonie's ship was cool...this is just ... I have no words.
Absolutely
and yeah, that Enterprise is completely unbelievably incredible
Nothing I do will ever even come close to being that badass.
Make a Borg Cube.
Seriously like. what. I. mind. borken.
Is there an interior?
I was going to built a ShuttleCraft in a hidden underground hanger under my barn.
This has given me the urge to make an astronaut farmer silo
My shuttle craft was going to be on a pad that emerges from a fake field.
