Cool project, Beavo. I like seeing these sorts of places through a personal filter, it gives you a lot of information about that person and their interaction with the place when it's done right.
crits?
again, i played around with layout on this one for a good 20 minutes or so, then i got tired of it, so new eyes on it will help
my impressions of texas were "oil.. yellow...flat... rodeo" hahaha
don't worry, i'm sure at least half of the people at the rodeo were incredibly racist, so they're back there in the crowd.

The only crit I have is that the glow on the horse and lady reduces the visibility of the lines and it's hard to pick them out. Sort of looks like there's a glare on my monitor. It's a similar effect. The ones around the bull are alright, they don't mess with the lines much. The glow on the oil pump to the far left is intense too.
Otherwise it's great, it fits in with the other ones perfectly.
This is a really great piece! nothing is really stand out wrong. but I think you are putting too many details in your darker value ranges that people can't really see that well anyways. like the oil pumps. if you brought up the value we could see some of the mechanics better. Same thing with the bull and the horse on the shadowed underbellies.
This will also print better since darker values tend to compress together when printing.
hey i think you guys are both right
i think it's because i adjust the hell out of colors and things after the fact
i'll go play around with those a bit more!
thanks guys
i did a bit of adjusting. it's pretty subtle hahah but I did change some things! After messing with the bull, I decided just to leave his back end dark, he looks too cut and pasted on when I take out the heavy shadowing
but i darkened his outlines just slightly
I still think that oilpump in the forground is too dark. it really punches a hole in your composition. horse is better, but i still wanna see that beautiful drawin on it's muscles.
I accidentally rasterized and flattened that oil pump so it's gonna take a bit of fiddln' prox but i'll keep playing!
i never went to san antonio! sorry godfather.

I like that better. The lines are much more crisp.
this is a cool project beav.. Having driven across the country east to west twice and up and down both coasts its inspiring me to go back and draw on that experience to make some art.
do it ken!
do some drawin's and post em
while i was working on this one, i was thinking that it'd actually be really cool to do a forum project where people do interpretations of where they live.
get a little forum world map o' illustrations.
my work gets increasingly more abstract as time goes by
which is a good thing i think
but soon i'm going to be making like... kandinsky style work and i'll be all "look at my art!"
and you'll be like "beav i don't get it"
and i'll put on my beret and roll my eyes at all of you.
i'm kidding, i could never be as good as kandinsky, he's a god.
also i just replaced 8 things in my portfolio with stuff i made in the past two weeks, how awesome is that?
yay! productivity!

It might be cool to call your works 'Composition x' though.
And it seems like all the genius artists always go more and more abstract, and then go weird. As long as you don't get to the point where you're pooing in tin cans or framing urinals I'll love your work.
hahah diffuse filters! we need to make her look like 10 years younger!
it's like a photo of elizabeth taylor
white diamonds!
i seriously need to find someone to take an actual photo of me, not a photobooth one
but it was either this mega pro photo
or like.. pictures of me drinking
because those are the only pics that exist.
Put a photo of you holding your puppy on there. Then you'll look happy and people will like you because of your puppy.
They will think, "I should hire her because not only is her work awesome, but she needs to feed that adorable dog!"
Being attracted to someone sporting a mustache is giving me some confusing feelings..
Actually you look a lot like James Franco in that pic.
Nothing gay about being attracted to James Franco, right?

Just do an emboss on the edges and maybe an inner glow......also another lense flare wouldn't hurt.
EDIT: Oh you already came up with that idea.....I feel so redundant. I'm just going to go and make some text look like chrome to make myself feel better.

I have seen all three of those things repeatedly
you left out the skinheads though
edit: oh, right, crits. uhhh, well actually, if you were going for the archetypes of the popular imagination, I don't think I have any.
Otherwise it's great, it fits in with the other ones perfectly.

I actually saw a skinhead for the first time here. I think people were yelling at him from across a busy intersection.

way better than my lens flare eye idea
I look like a young, robotic starlet from the late 80s!
"Greek parents are like this. Huh? Yeah, you know how it is, handful of people of Greek descent in the audience."
who among us wouldn't
i'm now using this photo instead, i think it's a better representation of my personality and skin glow:
