KoTOR 2 has the most un-star warsy star wars story ever.

    except for maybe Death Troopers.

If KotoR let you retrain your former levels or just start as a Jedi I would like it much more.

Then again KotoR II takes forever to get a lightsaber.

But at least the lighsaber is the best melee weapon in the game.

Lies in the OP about blasters being useless. I used them exclusively in 1 and 2, partly because I prefer the sound effect to the light saber sound and partly because I thought the up-close combat animations were clumsy looking.

Neither does KOTOR 2, it deals with your place in the universe and how you can use it to affect change on a grander scale, also how good and evil are just tools for this purpose, not an end in themselves.

I only ever played through Taris once (maybe twice?). I don't think it does much late in the game and I could just take that character and replay the rest of the game from there. I do lose a bit of DS/LS points this way, but you can get shitloads before the end anyway.

And here's a little tip, the Sith are evil. They have to be in order to channel the Dark Side. It's why you don't see any Darths just handing out flowers and bunnies.

What I was trying to get you to process is that Kreia is not a Sith.

It's a useful role for manipulating events. She no more operates under their philosophy nor furthers their goals than you or I. Due in no small part to things like
    Couscous wrote: »
She also wanted to kill the force. That is as much against the Dark Side stuff as it is against the Light Side stuff.

And the fact that destroying the Jedi Council was the exact opposite of her goal. Which is why she berates you for being a retard if you go the full Dark Side route.

Really. The concept of a dark and light side in the SW universe has been proven multiple times as being a load of shit in the EU, and even a few times in the official canon.

It's no surprise that someone who understands that there's no dark or light side, just "dicks" and "self righteous prigs", and is a manipulative [strike]old hag[/strike] person would use the beliefs of others to get the job done.

The whole "dark side makes you evil" thing makes me laugh, because as hard as Lucas tries to push it, almost none of the canon outside of his films actually demonstrates that.

I mean, they've got an entire canon series where a light sider points out and demonstrates that the only thing that's "dark" about the dark side is that it's more predisposed to looking appealing to people who are inherently assholes. A strong sense of conviction and a good moral compass is enough to let you use both powers, and as a result, be pretty much unstoppable so long as you don't swing too far into either moral direction.

When you give someone superpowers that are centered around hurting people and electrocuting them to death, and the person has a megomaniacal streak, it's no surprise they might go a bit stir crazy after they realize they can just end an arguement by using "force mind-fuck", or by just barbecuing them.

The thing is that Lucas owns the franchise and doesn't have to care what anyone thinks outside of the films. He routinely proves that as well.

Edit: Dox: Dual Baragwain Assault blades. Solves everything as a soldier. Also yes, the best melee weapons aren't lightsabers.

Which is in turn made ok by the fact that pretty much noone that actually develops for Star Wars pays attention to Lucas nowadays. The only time someone stops and does what he says if he makes an executive order to veto or ban a concept from the canon.

Sometimes, I wonder if the real reason the Prequel trilogies turned out so badly (Except the third one, it was actually pretty good, but then, it added in a few of the concepts from the EU.) is because it was Lucas's way of trying to deal with the fact that the canon had gotten way out of his control.

But I sort of like what they did with the Exile and Revan's character through that sequel, even if I hated Kreia and most of the supporting characters

So I don't really know how I feel about it I guess

Blargh, you beat me to it.

Kreia is trying to be a 3D character in a 2D world. She's preaching grey in a black-and-white world. She's a supporter of inaction in an action-movie universe. She's basically saying "you can't solve all your problems by hitting them with a lightsabre" when in actual fact you can and do.

I don't want to think about the long-term repercussions of my actions in a StarWars game, I want to chop the bad guys into pieces with my fucking laser-sword. This is a universe, remember, where you can tell everything about someone's moral alignment (or whether they're Samuel L Jackson) by looking at the colour of their lightsabre.

The good guys wear white, have blue lightsabres, and shit sunbeams and rainbows.

The badguys wear nothing but black, and kick every puppy they see on their way to burn down the orphanage, chewing the scenery all the way.

And that's how I likes it.

*edit* Also, is it Lightsabre, or Lightsaber?

Has anyone had any luck with getting KOTOR 1 to run on Win7 with an NVIDIA card?

I've been dying to play it, but the damn thing crashes within minutes of starting up.

Also, Mr. Ray said it well. Kreia just flat pissed me off. Its a video game, worse yet, its an RPG, all she serves to do is remind me that I'm stuck with binary choices and maybe "do nothing". People like to bring out the notion that they were using that to subvert the entire idea of an RPG, but its hamfisted.

To be sure, I liked KOTOR2. Crashing on loading 7 out of 10 times was bullshit, but it was a fun game. Kreia was an awful, stupid character and I let that whiny witch stay in the cargo hold all day.

The half-finished nature of everything, and it was all so obviously half-finished, made the game unplayable after my second character. I'm tired of fighting assassin droids and not seeing their factory world.

Even Lucas has enough sense to hate the christmas special.

I can't remember the precise quote, but Lucas was once heard saying that he wished he could "find every copy of it ever recorded, and smash them with a sledgehammer" to keep the world from ever having to experience it again.

Also, almost none of the actual Star Wars cast actually recalls starring in the thing. According to TVTropes, Carrie Fisher was visibly strung out when she did it, and has no recollection of doing the special.

Though, the special did bring us one thing of note.

At least, as a kid, thats why I liked him. Before I knew about all the Mando crap, I just thought, like IG-88 and Bossk, he was a badass bounty hunter. I mean, wasn't that the whole point of the scene? A bunch of mean lookin' space baddies.

It's pretty funny that pretty much everyone at Lucasarts wants to forget about the Special, but yet, Lifeday has shown up in SWG, and in a few other sources.

Then again, the original script for the special was properly badass. Apparently the network executives demanded the "TV special" crap we got, rather then an awesome space opera adventure to save space-Christmas and kick imperial ass.
