Heh, at like 7 last night I was about to go to bed but then got the urge to do VVV again.
I hadn't played since beating the game so I was kinda rusty, so I ended up having a bunch of difficulty even gettingo to it. And on a related note, I caught the pun in the top room being named "Getting Here is Half the Fun". I only ever took it to mean getting to the entrance, since they're the same screen, and was always too focused on hitting that top platform to realise that of course it was the same name and worked on multiple levels.
Anyway, tired as I was, I managed to beat it in about 15 minutes or so.
I mean to play through the game some more eventually, either a low deaths run or a speedrun, I dunno.

One of the last two nights I finally installed this.
I didn't play for too long and kinda randomly bounced around, but did get to V.V.V. and gave up after a few attempts. I encountered it pretty early on, and some of the stuff I did later certainly made it seem more possible than it did initially.
What made me give up was the room with a bunch of platforms and spikes where I'm escorting.
Very entertaining retro game, but I can't ever see myself going for a low death run. (I hope)
No, never. And forget about a no death run--I'm convinced it's impossible. Someone claimed that it's been done, but I've seen no proof, so I'm inclined to think it was hax.
The guy on the video I posted earlier was close to finishing a no death run. If he hadn't died on the gravitron I reckon he had a pretty good chance of managing it.
Aaaargh. I woudn't have believed it, but Veni Vidi Vici is even harder than it looks I think I need to take a break before I smash my computer. I've successfully made it to the top, but the sharp veer to the left required on the return trip so far is beyond me. Tomorrow that shiny will be mine.
after that sharp veer to the left you'll notice that there are no spikes on the left wall followed by no spikes on the right wall in vici. Just veer hard left and right (really fast of course cuz you're fallinglol) cuz when you're back in vidi you need to head to the far right.
EDIT: Upon retrying it just now I forgot that it's really hard to lean hard left and then right in vici. I just aimed for the middle on the return trip and then leaned hard right.
EDIT: I just tried this again to make sure my spoiler was correct and I gotta say it's amazing how much better I've become at this. On second try I made it top to bottom with only ten deaths. It's too bad they don't have a death counter for this puzzle only. Mine would probably account for 75% of all my deaths throughout the whole game.

honestly, for me the Gravitron is probably the hardest (or at least most obnoxious) part of the game
Doing Things the Hard Way is a bitch at first, but once you've spent an hour learning the pattern it comes back pretty quickly on subsequent tries
the gravitron on the other hand is something I can never quite get down. my best number of deaths was over 50 today at school (so much for <100 deaths :U). the only thing that saves it from being the most broken awful "FUCK THIS SHIIIIT" experience in all of indie gaming is the 5-second checkpoints
and the Super Gravitron can go fuck itself all over
The Veni Vidi Vici shiny is mine! I shudder to think how many times I actually died doing it, but it's mine now. The game almost broke me. I once hit the last spike above the shiny in my desperate bid to veer right and not accidentally land on the wrong side :x

I fully expected to land right on the raised block, hit left for some horrible reason, and then scream as I realized what I had done. Thankfully this did not actually happen.

Yep, that happened to me too. I think Mizuumi is right, it's not that hard once you figure out the pattern, the problem is my reflexes are so bad I think it took me more like 2 or 3 hours. Gravitron didn't bother me so much, but I agree the Super Gravitron is the reason I finally put the game down. I'm back to trying to finish the Witcher for the first time. :rotate:

It feels really weird playing this game after playing so much Meat Boy lately. The player handles so differently, yet somehow the game seems easier than I remember.
It's been ages since I got all the trinkets in a game, yet Veni Vedi Vici didn't give me that much trouble.

Ahaha...that actually happened to me the first time I did it. I think I lost conciousness after that.

I picked up VVVVVV a couple days ago and beat it last night. After playing SMB and The Deep Cave a lot over the past few weeks, it felt very, very easy. That isn't saying that it doesn't have some difficult parts but the pure insanity of Super Meat Boy probably makes any platformer in the world seem easy now.
Just picked this up after watching the first couple of LP videos. This is a bit more my style of insane madness. Got violet just fine, wandered into the green dude's place with the loopy area. Was SO proud of myself when I got the shiny! I hadn't even seen that part of the LP, so I dun it all on my own! Anywho, this is a great challenge, I look forward to much crying.

Do you, in fact, have any builds in this shop at all?
YES! Veni vidi vici indeed. I don't want to know how many times I died, and one of those deaths was on the spikes RIGHT above the shiny...I got too excited to have made it that far, and went right >.<

Well. Finished my first playthrough, and I can't say I am impressed with the results. But at least I didn't hit the 1k mark for deaths. Barely. About 1/4 of my deaths were likely spent on Doing Things the Hard Way. Sonofabitch level...
It's really not bad for a blind first run. Even watching the LP and knowing what's coming, doing is different than watching.
I know I've said this before, but I'm still reserving the right to go back and get what I missed in this LP, as well as try for a really good Gravitron run.
Maybe once you've finished your Quest for Glory Let's Play? Even if you don't ever get back to this, thanks for the laughs and for getting me to play this crazy game.
For all intents and purposes it is considered completed in the LP archive, but I'll go back and get the remaining shinies/do the bonus levels/try for a high score in the Gravitron sometime in the future.
So did the patch release on Steam yet? I'm trying to find out if you can check a game's version number through Steam or not.
Also, does the game erase your save when you shut it off? I booted the game back up yesterday to check if it was patched, and it put me right back at the beginning cutscene.

Limed so hard.

There, that better? :rotate:
I may be getting too old for this; by the end, it had devolved into a repeated sequence of muscle memory, I wasn't even looking at the screen.
I don't feel like quite such an old man, now. Reward for the Reckless especially didn't give me anywhere near as much trouble as I expected.
Viridian has sadly limited use. Hopefully somebody puts together an exclusive level set for him.
It will probably be me who does so.

Done.
And that, folks, is my christmas miracle.
I like to thank super meat boy for fucking me over constantly so that I was prepared to face the final challenge.
The music is incredible.
First place I stumble my way into? The Tower.
If I hadn't watched this LP I would've been fucked. Thanks josh!

I do have a lot of respect for screenshot LPers now.
So, are we going to see the Bonus levels?
Well, Kayne Red Robe bought the game for me, so presumably he will get an email with the update. I'd love to revisit this.
