What do you mean not choosing between them? You grab the gun you want in town and go from there. I'm not sure what you're getting at here.
2) having a psuedo-RPG feel, but stopping just before it gets interesting
I rather liked Metro's feel . This is one of those 100% opinion subjects so no real point debating it.
3) having checkpoints that were, to all appearances, designed by massive, deformed rat-monkey-things.
I honestly never noticed. The few times I did die due to an obsession with the throwing knives not always working out so well it always seemed to place me in a fairly logical place but Russian post-apocalyptic worlds and I travel together quite well. To be fair, when I played Metro, I had already been playing the ever loving shit out of the Stalker series on Master with mods set to intentionally make the game harder, so yeah, my mileage varied slightly.
To me, the Half-Life series has always struck me as stopping just short of being a competent shooter and was always rather content being a tech demo. Episode 1 and 2 tried to flesh the game out, but felt more like self-parody than anything (teehee, Gordon in another vent system, how cute!).
I would seriously pay money for a CommenTrax system.
Interested in more <show> commentaries than <broadcaster> paid for? Submit the request; if the number of requesters meet a certain minimum, then the company would contact <cast, crew> and give them money to record a commentary.
Commentary can be 'viewed' in the same way as RiffTrax, or for an extra fee, properly mixed into the film.

The pistol, in particular, has 3 separate versions; a long barrel, a silencer, and a generic. There is absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be allowed to carry the silencer and the long barrel with me, and choose appropriately.
I want to say this is true of other weapons - some are out-and-out replacements (sawed off shotgun != auto-shotgun), but what I'm referring to is specifically that some of these weapons differ only piecemeal, and allowing the player to keep those pieces would have helped.
Additionally, considering how many of the guns are obviously cobbled together, a missed opportunity is collecting pieces and building your own, highly specialized versions. But that's a pipe dream from my love of crafting.

I'm referring specifically to two checkpoints (but I hate the concept in general, so this is needless ragging)
The first is just after Bourbon gets captured; popping out to fight resulted in ridiculous amounts of (my) death, and so I snuck around ... and accidentally triggered another checkpoint, putting me square in the middle of the enemies and that was a massive headache. If I had thought to pick up the silenced pistol from the wasteland ... but see my point above.
The other is a bit earlier; the outside areas are deeply unclear on what is passable terrain and what isn't. I'm not against time limits in general; this just seemed designed to drain your mask supply, which I view as somewhat treacherous.

there are some very good people at it and some terrible ones, but when it's a film historian and things like that they're used to talking about these movies and are pretty consistently interesting.
And there we have it. The practical ramifications of my atonement plan have run there course in my head I'm thinking the whole thing would be a bad idea, or at least one I can continue ignoring.
So I just picked up my first copy of Mojo in a few years, to get the tribute cover album for Neil Young's Harvest album. I am a little apprehensive because I like the original so much but I guess it is worth the risk

I need to come up with better categories for Kings. Premiership football teams and pornstars were the best ones I could come up with last night.
I don't do commentaries. They don't really interest me.

This is the reaction I usually get when I trot out the idea, and it's my biggest fear - I don't know if it'd be financially viable; to wit: what percentage of people actually watch commentaries; watch them more than once; and are interested in third-party feedback.

I've enjoyed linklater's and fincher's commentaries that I listened to
I bought panic room only because of the commentary on it (it was on sale but I'd never seen it and hadn't heard good things)
I don't tend to watch commentaries. Then again most of the time if I buy a film I'll get the supermarket single disc edition with no extras rather than pay more than double the price for a special edition with a commentary and a "making of" documentary.
I think the only commentaries I listened to was the ones for Red vs Blue (I love that show, I don't care who knows it). The guys were pretty funny so it made listening to the podcast a natural choice.
Also, Geoff's wife Griffon is totally hot

Well since I'm primarily watching movies on Netflix Instaqueue I don't watch commentaries ever now.
I really should go through and watch all the commentaries on Friends. I mean I put so much money into all the DVDs, I may as well get the full potential of them.
I don't tend to watch commentaries. Then again most of the time if I buy a film I'll get the supermarket single disc edition with no extras rather than pay more than double the price for a special edition with a commentary and a "making of" documentary.
Usually a special edition is $5 - $10 more.
Not double the price. =/

Well, this has been my experience. For example I bought The Dark Knight in Tesco for £3, whereas at the time the two disc was about a tenner on Amazon and more than that anywhere else.

I still need to take it back off, trim one of the edges, paint it, and fit the door furniture, but at least the hinges are now in the right place.
