Thread title isn't too great. OoT 3D looks ok at best, even compared to the original. Which proves once again that creativity and effort can even make up for graphical limitations to a certain amount.
I'm curious. has anyone that wears glasses and tested the 3ds had much to say about the combination? is it still visable?
I'm just unsure how less then perfect vision affects the 3d effect.
I have a lazy eye but could see the 3D effect far more clearly than at the cinema. Only had a brief time with it though, no games and didn't have my glasses as I hadn't planned on trying the 3DS that day. But I don't need glasses all the time, eyesight varies day to day.
Rumored review scores from Official Nintendo Magazine (so take with a grain of salt), courtesy of GameKyo, found by GoNintendo (love how these things go from source -> site A -> site :
Super Street Fighter IV 3D - 91%
Ridge Racer 3D - 87%
Nintendogs + Cats - 84%
Pilotwings Resort - 81%
Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars - 80%
Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D - 78%
Asphalt 3D - 70%
Super Monkey Ball 3D - 70%
If Ghost Recon really scores about the same as Pilotwings, I'd say that's a win. Looks like it's that and either DOA or SF4 for me, and a tentative buy for Steel Diver. Has there been any official word on if DOA is still launch for NA?
I'm probably one of the few who doesn't pop an instant boner whenever Square Enix, Atlus and Nippon Ichi are mentioned. Call me when Intelligent Systems, Camelot or Game Freak are involved.
Int Sys is involved in Paper Mario, so...ring, ring.
You can never have too much Intelligent Systems.
Definitely the game I'm most excited for from the 3DS.
No bias, though, of course.

There's no launch games I really want but that right there sold me on the damn thing...
Fuck, and I just decided this morning I'd wait it out.
I didn't know about the male and female detection thing, that's neat. Shame it's on a small screen that you would never use for slideshows ever.
Actually that particular function seems optimized for porn.
Anyway I wouldn't worry about the launch games too much. They'll be available used or discounted before too long and I wouldn't have any qualms about buying a few at $20 or so, they just aren't really full price material except in a few cases.
I didn't see it posted yet, so sorry if I skimmed over it, but Capcom posted this a couple hours ago. No big deal, just some box art. But hey, it looks cool.

Wow that looks good!
Not for Chris Redfield of course but damn, that is some nice boxart.
Visited 3 Best Buys and found the demo kiosk at the third.
Didn't play much pilotwings because it's hard to play when you're constantly being pulled to the ground via the system's tether, but I just wanted to check out the 3D effect anyway.
Looks good, but I'm a bit more unimpressed than I was hoping. Definitely want one, but the final say is that I think I can wait it out a few months at the least.
You take a couple hours to investigate by just staring at it, someone else can go and advance the plot.
I'm going to go with Anvimmeraxe for that weapon. Although its almost kind of a scythe too.

Yeah the Best Buy I visited had a demo kiosk. Good reminder as to why I hated Pilotwings back on the SNES :P Yawn... Wish they were demoing a different game.
3d looked pretty nice, but yeah, you really have to get a specific distance from the screen for it to look good and it was hard with the thing bolted in like that. The effect wasn't as pronounced as I thought it'd be either, but it could just be that one game. I did like the analog nub though, seemed to work well. Not sure I'm crazy about the weird Start/Select/Home buttons on the bottom, but probably won't be an issue.
West to Best Buy today. The 3DS kind of blew me away. It looked way better than expected, and way better than shutter glasses 3D. I turned the 3D slider pretty low (~20%?).
I had to stoop to use it, even though I could detach the magnetic part, the security cord didn't reach long enough for my tallness. Seems like the distance sweet spot will be very similar to how I naturally hold a DS.
Enjoyed my Pilotwings play too. Way more hyped for it now.
Only problem was my eyes started to sting after a little while, but that could have been a result of any number of things. Guess I'll find out more after I get mine.
Also, very near focused glasses wearer here, if that helps anyone.

I'd say that Chunsoft, Falcom, Atlus and Bamco are the Japanese companies I'm most interested in. I'm way more interested in Nippon Ichi's visual novel games, especially Hayarigami, than their SRPGs. Over the last year I've gained a lot trust for Sega's Yakuza team and Spike.

I accidently turned off the power because I thought it was the start button. It's not a big deal, but I don't like the button placement. To be a bit more picky, I think the D-pad is a litle uncomfortable to use being underneath the slide pad.
I agree, the D-pad placement has always seemed awkward (where as the nub is in the more natural spot). But then again, I'm a not design engineer so I couldn't tell you where else it could go.

Yeah. Monkey Ball was the only thing that even remotely interested me, even though I've never actually played any of the games before. And that 70% score really warns me off.
As much as I'd hate having a 3D system, with no 3D content to play on it, I think I'll be holding off on a game until something better comes out (Assuming gamestop lets me buy the system without a game purchase).

Where do you live that Gamestop may be unwilling to sell you a system if you don't buy a game as well?
That's fucking idiocy.

It is sadly not unprecedented. From their point of view, they're going to sell all of their initial shipments no matter how stupid the conditions they place on the purchase are.

Its definitely not company policy, and if you went high enough up the chain, you could likely get some people in trouble for it.

That would be ridiculously stupid of them. I know most people will be getting a game to take advantage of the 3DS, but refusing to give a customer the product they want?
EDIT: Good, it's not company policy, never mind then.

That seems to be their MO everytime a system is launched. Frankly, I was going to consider myself lucky if they let me buy the game without forcing three games and a "start up pack" along with it.
The last two generations of home consoles, there was absolutely a bundle purchase enforced. I didn't really pay attention to portable consoles.
Has this changed? Or am I the only one that remembers this bullshit?
I remember it too. I think the deal is that there are no mandatory bundles for the launch, and if there is scarcity on the supply side, you'll start seeing mandatory bundles. Based on what I saw in Japan though, I don't think there'll be shortages simply because there's no killer app for the machine.

No. Your local store may have been breaking policy and forcing bundles, but they would have been in a world of shit with corporate if complaints went up the chain.
There won't be as many shortages because they're launching with a larger stock in March. If this was November, like most systems launch, it would be sold out for months.

If there is any Australians still worried about the region locking, EB's got some new display boxes that claim that it will run Australian/European software. So it looks like standard Pal region locking.
Preordered today! I was a bit worried that it'd be too late to get one at launch, but apparently not.
Does anyone know when Steel Diver is coming out in Aus or Europe? EBGames doesn't have a listing for it, the UK sites I import from don't list it... they are going to localise it, right? Right?

I thought I heard May somewhere, but don't quote me on that. It doesn't look like it though.
I thought about it but it's seriously like one week and the potential pissedness is not worth the trip.
Actually it's interesting to hear that they had an easy time porting their engine over and "the architecture isn't that different from Wii."
