Earlier this year, when my previous career was behind me and I was deciding what to do with my life, I narrowed it down to two choices. Surgical Tech or Forestry Services. It was a tough decision.
Then I realized that people always get sick while national parks and the like keep getting smaller and smaller and their budget gets more and more pathetic.
The shutdown could last for only a day or so, or it could go on for a week. It really could go on longer, but I don't think it ever has. It will continue until they reach a compromise that can be passed.
"We wanted a unicorn for every Republican in Congress and those stupid Demoncrats (get it?) are telling us that unicorns aren't even real! How are we supposed to find middle ground when the other side takes such a rigid position?"

is there some kind of unbiased study to support that though
the best we could manage is somehow correlating SAT scores with political party, but then it would be a question of whether the kids really know anything about the parties or whether they are just mimicking their parents or something

Living in a city like Toronto in Canada puts me so far left that I can't empathize at all with Republican Americans.
I know that there is some reasoning behind the actions and stances of the republican party, but so much of the posturing I see comes across as the actions of some horrible cartoon villain.
How did 49% of your country vote for these people?

I thought most republican and democrat splits were because of age splits. Like Republicans don't support education spending as much as democrats because older people are generally republicans, and democrats do because younger people are generally democrats. Etc etc.
Also free market vs government helped market and other stuff.

Not that education is necessarily correlated with intelligence, either.
