Welp, I just took my friend to the pound to be cremated
I can't legally bury him on the property we live on, since it doesn't belong to us and they won't let us put him here
So, $110 later and we get a private cremation + handmade/handpainted urn for him
In possibly the dumbest move of all time, I heard the whimpering in the distance and went to go say hi to all the doggies in the pound
At least half of them were little puppies, who belonged to military families who couldn't take them with them when they moved
EDIT: By the way, I highly recommend your doggie not die after pound closing hours and the day before you have obligations you can not get out of before the afternoon, when you live in a state where the temperature has been over 100 degrees for almost 2 consecutive months
By the time I was able to take him in, he did not smell good and this was not good for my emotional health as I drove him in my automobile to be burned up
A few months back I unfortunately witnessed a puppy being run over on the way to work and I don't think I've ever screamed that loud or that much. It was such a horrible day but my own dopey corgi did make it all better. Gonna give him a huge hug today.

Damn, I'm sorry josh, I know what it's like to lose a pet dog.
Thanks again guys. I did have to resist the temptation to take a corgi doggie home today. He was pretty and awesome and at the pound and I always wanted a corgi and oh god I don't want to replace Napoleon just yet

I'm so sorry for your loss Josh.
My mom has been having a terrible time with cats lately. Background: She's always tried to take care of any strays, feeds them, gets them fixed, etc. for 30+ years. We've always had cats around. Big, fat, happy cats.
Her youngest cat she had rescued as a kitten while it was running around in the middle of a busy street. She stopped traffic and scooped the cat up. He got hit by a car a couple of months ago. That really broke her up since she was considering him her I'm-gonna-get-old cat.
Another cat of hers is displaying kidney problems and has diabetes. The vets can't figure out why he's not responding to insulin.
And her third cat just last week was attached by a random pit bull. He's alive but in a lot of pain and needs a bunch of meds.
Huh...

My cat fucking LOVES to try to get out, but I never let him outside because I don't want him to get hit by anything. Also the last place we lived people let their goddamn PIT BULLS run around the apartment complex with no leash or nothing, so I didn't want him to get, you know, fucking eaten or anything.

The fucked up thing is, she's been at the same house for 30 years with various cats that would go outside or not. Never had a single problem until the last couple of months.
i am sorry that some people are garbage, joshofalltrades. that is an awful thing to deal with.

This sucks.
But hey.
Get the Corgi.
Don't think of it as a replacement. More a supplement. Like, if Pug was still around, they'd be dawg bros. Corgi is just a little late to the party, that's all.
I am making this thread even though I fully expect to be mercilessly mocked
But my pug, Napoleon, who I owned for almost 8 years and loved to pieces, snuck outside when my wife went to run some errands today (probably just to pee)
When she and I got home 2 hours later, we discovered he was not in the house and went out to look for him
We didn't have to go far, his body was just up the street and he'd obviously been hit by somebody joyriding through the neighborhood at 50 miles an hour (the skid marks leading up to him were horrendously long)
Fuck I haven't let a real tear fall for anything in at least a couple years but damned if I didn't shed some for that damn dog
Nooooo
This is the worst
I'm really sorry for your loss, and fuck those people who hit your dog
I'm going to have a hell of a time when my cat passes. He lives with my parents now, only because he needs near constant attention. Little fucker god bless 'em is 22 years old. Every winter we expect him to keel over but nope. He's not suffering; he lost a bunch of weight (and was never fat because he's part Absyinnian), then put it back on. Has all of two teeth but eats wet food fine. I've had this cat for all but 2 years of my life; He's older than all of my siblings. I will cry many hours when he dies.
I've had a few dogs die, but none have lived so long. The dog I grew up with, 'that dog' that everyone has as a kid, was put down when my parents timely took me on a camping trip. So grief came in stages later. And there's been two dogs since then, but I got to spend their last hours laying next to them so that was nice. I feel for you Josh. Just remember what an awesome dog he was. Every dog will be compared to that little pug and that's a great thing because that dog set the gold standard. Sorry dude.

Losing a dog is the worst.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
Well I've got some cheer up news, one of my nanny goats just gave birth to twins.
spoilered for large
Eeeeeee baby goats are the best. I miss that my parents don't breed ours anymore. Come kidding season I would spend like an hour before school, and every hour after, down in the barn. I'd do my homework in the kidding pen, on a stool, just so I could have 2 or 3 or 4 little guys playing on me.

I actually managed alright when my dog was put down. My parents had been out of town, and asked me to look after him for a few days, and it was nice. He was having some sort of mental problems, but those days I went up to see him, he was just fine. We even hung out a bit and I pet him and all that good stuff. A few days after they got back, something was going on with him real bad. Dad took him in to get looked at, and he was in an awful way, and they basically said there was no way he was going to get better, and they could put him on meds that might help some, but recommended going the other route, so my dad said okay.
I missed him, but I didn't really cry over it. I just remember missing him a lot that year. I don't really go to my parents house that often, so it's not even like I'd see him that often, and he was at least 17, so he had a good life.
I will probably be pretty devastated when my cat goes. He's sort of become like a friend/roommate to me.

He didnt really have either of those problems! But his breath was atrocious.
I'd give anything to smell that dragon breath right now

Also, this is why Moriveth won't go to see animals with me at the adoption centres

Be well, @joshofalltrades. That's some shit, man.

Some kitties are going to get hugs tonight and they won't know what the fuck
Well they do get hugs anyway, but
Must be harder to lose them in an accident rather than knowing they're being put down for their own good
And even that was awful
Man

I don't know but it's a bigger dog. He's larger than most corgis I've met. Maybe a golden.
I thought about Zwei but that's not really a clever reference at all. We're also huge Dexter fans sooooo
