Yeah, I forced the missus to sit through this a few months ago. It didn't go over too well, for both of us. I think I held this movie up on way too high of a pedestal. It's slow, plodding, and Deckard basically rapes... what's her name. The female.
It's still fucking incredible, visually. And "tears in rain" is still such a great scene. It's just that the 3 hours before that are... a bit too slow for my tastes now.
Yeah I think a lot of people going into it somehow get the impression that it's some kind of sci-fi action movie, but it absolutely isn't. I love the movie to pieces but I very much have to be in the mood to sit down and devote time to it.
I get why a lot of people don't like that scene and feel it's almost rape and is really uncomfortable, but I think they're missing the point of the scene. She's a replicant, she has implanted memories. She says herself that she doesn't know what impulses are her own and which are just from Tyrell's niece. Yeah, he's forceful with her but it's not like she's fighting him. She's just very uncertain of herself and she doesn't have a clue what to do.

Plus Deckard is, like many noir protagonists, a scumbag throughout the movie. It's not like a great hero is bungling what should be a classic romance or anything.

"then shalt thou count to three replicants, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out unless it is the director's cut."
Have people watched the theatrical and director's cut of Legend?
Was pretty interesting to see what rearranging the scenes and adding some different music did to the movie.

i am always skeptical when great stories are given sequels 20+ years after the previous entry in the series because it often seems like the authors are just trying to squeeze more out of their biggest successes
but sometimes it is because they actually have a new story to tell, like with Asimov's Foundation's Edge,
plus, blade runner wasn't one of his big successes, or a commercial success at all, so i look forward to more news on this

I just saw the theatrical release with a bunch of friends like two weeks ago.
They didn't want to watch the final or international theatrical cuts because of too many boobies and too much blood.
It also hasn't aged as well as we'd like.

some people are total prudes. i know somebody who fastforwards over sex scenes in movies. he's 18
I didn't get much out of Blade Runner when I watched it. Maybe I need to give it another go.
Maybe.
The key things to remember?
1) The movie is ridiculously pretty.
2) Deckard is the world's least competent cop. Book Deckard is human, married, and good at his job. Film Deckard is zero for three.
Deckard isn't an incompetent cop. He's a really good bladerunner who's incompetent at being human.
Bad at being a human, sure.
Worse at being a Blade Runner. I mean, in the book (good book, very different, different core themes even), he's dealing with a new model of these things, and he gets the record for kills anyway (Since Phil isn't getting credit. Poor Phil.)
Film? He kills... two replicants. By shooting one in the back when she're running away for unrelated reasons, and shooting one when she's doing cartwheels for no apparent reason.
Or you know, he kills her by shooting her in the back because he's doing his job. What kind of shitty blade runner would he be if he was all, "oh hey I'm over here and I'm supposed to kill you but I wanted to give you a warning." His job isn't to show off, his job is to exterminate replicants.

I DON'T KNOW!
We were going to see the final cut right after to compare it, but we all really lost interest. Not even the promise of boobies and blood was enough.

How is Zhora running away from Deckard because she knows he's trying to kill her unrelated to Deckard shooting her in the back?

He'd be a better one if he shot her on sight.
He got the clean easy back shot by dumb luck. It's the only reason he survives the movie.
Look, he knows what the targets look like. He knows that, if it comes to a fistfight, he's screwed because they're killer robots. He's got a license to shoot on sight. That's how he should do it. See the target, ice the target, cover it up so the other Replicants don't know what's going down, repeat. Nice and simple.
Instead, he gets into a fistfight with every single one, and relies on dumb luck not to get killed. Every time.

The theatrical release hadn't aged well a minute after it was finished. If you wanted to compare old to new, you should have done the work print to final cut.

To be a great bladerunner he only has to be better than the other guys doing it, not be a flawless badass. It's portrayed as a hard fucking job: it's an infrequent task to practice because most replicants are off world, there's a lot of procedure and paperwork limiting bladerunners' actions in hostile situations, evaluations have to be performed, the other guy we see doing the job gets shot, the replicants are superhuman in many physical and mental capacities, Zhora was a member of political murder squad, and many of Deckard's problems are underscored by how he deals with the female replicants throughout the movie.

I don't see the need for a Blade Runner sequel.

You know, for Ridley Scott saying that he wanted to make Robin Hood so he could show how awesome archers are, there sure wasn't a whole lot of archery in the film.
