I think what we're going to end up doing next week is have assigned people go up and hit the orbs, and everybody else gets to sit back at the portal.
At least now I have money for gemming/enchanting both my ret and holy OS. I almost have a full set of equipment for my ret even though I have never tried ret. I figured it would be easier for our weird tank rotations if I can just swap to dps rather than having extra heals. I haven't seen a very good listing of "tiered" retribution gear, like there are about 10 lists for prot that take you from 346-391.
With ret one thing I've found incredibly useful is askmrrobot.com. You can tier your level of gear (pre-za/zg, pre-raid, T11, T12, and heroic levels of raiding).
And yeah, I had tried the tank/heal set at one point back in wotlk. I found out the hard way that extra healers are rarely needed.

I tried using that askmrrobot for my boomkin and it gave me absolutely horrible gear suggestions. Like, it suggested trinkets from old heroics over epics (and elitist jerks clearly says they are not better). I heard someone in trade also say it called the Pickled Egg thing from Coren BiS for a Shadow Priest, when the proc is +healing -_-
Yeah some specs are screwed up on there. It's completely worthless for Frost Mages too (when it has you reforging out of crit on all pieces of gear, something's wrong).
But it works for Ret, so I feel safe suggesting it for that spec.
Halaa had good design but laughably stupid incentives.
Heavily favoring overpopulated factions, falling deaths with durability loss, and extra-long corpse runs for such deaths don't seem like that good of design to me.
The first is just inherent in world pvp. I don't ever recall having a falling death in Halaa, but that's more of an Outlands design issue than anything specific to Halaa. Long corpse runs were intentional to make sure you were gone for a bit when you died. But it did interfere with deaths NOT in Halaa, which was a problem.
You can't just discount the first for being inherent in world PvP. The zone still would have been a failure even if other things were addressed because of that very issue.
They stuffed Halaa on a mesa (or whatever) over a huge chasm. I'm not really sure how you don't see the huge issue of falling deaths there; that's definitely a Halaa issue. The point is your corpse runs were arbitrarily longer if your corpse happened to be in the ravine (and didn't have a flying mount to trivially get back up).

I guess your opposing faction priests sucked. Fears also have a way of pathing you somewhere such that you will fall once it ends.
