Hrm, anyone know if the One Handed perks will work for unarmed combat? Haven't been able to find much solid info on hand-to-hand, but those are the only perks I see that look like they might work with it (aside from the heavy armor perk).
I don't think anyone's actually tested and reported on it. Not that it would be the most straightforward thing to test since you never did see a damage readout for your hands in previous games. I certainly hope the non-weapon specific perks apply though since I want to do a Saxton Hale character (lots of punching, no weapons, ideally no clothes either) after my initial stealthy bastard.
Hey! I got a beta invite for SWTOR starting on 11-11-11.
Imagine that. Too bad I'll be otherwise occupied. :winky:
Hey there buddy. How you doin'?
I'm a huge Knights of the Old Republic fan, and a fan of RPGs in general. I was content putting thoughts of The Old Republic in the back of my mind until launch. Every crevice of the rabid hype-sponge inside of me has been too busy soaking up bits of Skyrim to even remember Star Wars is a thing that exists.
My only day off until next Wednesday is Saturday, and I was just lamenting what kind of horrible Sophie's Choice scenario befell you two. I wondered if I could even make a reasonable decision given those options.
Then I checked my e-mail...
Fucking seriously!!! It had to be this weekend guys?!? You choose to give a bunch of RPG nerds free early access to a game that you've poured obscene amounts of money into, and limit it to the launch weekend of one of the year's biggest RPGs? Have you lost your fucking minds?!?*
*For context, I am currently pacing back and forth in front of my desk while yelling this at my ceiling. First. World. Problems.
As someone who has been in the SW:TOR beta for a while, play Skyrim. Seriously. I actually would advise people against playing The Old Republic until release.
god damnit shady russian site why haven't you sent me my key for preloading yet! (i'd be more annoyed if preloading wouldn't take me roughly 25 minutes at worst)
I'm quite glad that my interest in this has been completely overshadowed by Batman and Uncharted until now. One day of unrelenting excitement is far more bearable than several months.
Hey does anyone know if an American gifts me a copy of Skyrim, when would the copy unlock to play? In America's timezone or in my timezone? (Australian in this case).
Reason I am asking is that Skyrim is $90USD on the Australian store and certainly cheaper at both the US and Euro stores.
It is also 1pm here and that would mean Skyrim would unluck in less than 12hours.

It's a shame that the Tamriel Rebuilt doesn't look like it will ever be finished. I mean, they're still working on it and releasing news and all but it's such a huge project and it seems like they're going so slow. I just know that at some point they're going to close their doors and that's it.

Fine. Previous games that did not involve legendary falling through the floor bugs or box art that looked more like softcore pornography than a game cover.

I remember falling through my fair share of floors in Morrowind and Oblivion, and that second objection can only be leveled against Arena.
Either way, the point is that Daggerfall once more did something that should be basic functionality.

On the suggestion of some guys here I got an american buddy to do just this. Saved thirty bucks (what the fuck, right?), and it unlocks in 11 hours.
Only downside is my PC only meets the minimum requirements. I really really hope the game won't look like ass. Someone make me feel better.

Bethesda might bring them into the fold?
Sure, why not? And while we're daydreaming, the next time I take a big shit I'll find a fist-sized diamond in it.

I've played through some of the expanded maps they've put out for that and it's pretty cool. But yeah that'd be a shame if they never finished and closed doors. They've been working on that for damn near ever.
Were they the same folks behind putting out a complete map of Hammerfell for Oblivion? I remember there was a test map for an island off the coast of Hammerfell, but that was I managed to play before Shivering Isles came out.

I can't believe I'm looking forward to watching a guy play this game for 12 hours. Lord, the hype.
I'm a bit worried about spoilers, though. Did they mention whether or not he was going to start at the very beginning of the game? If so, it might be best to start watching four or five hours in to avoid most of the starter areas/dungeons.

I would be very interested to hear why you feel this way. Though I do understand the limits of what you can say on a public forum.
In any case, thanks for saving me the coin flip. Skyrim it is!
preloading now. god i hope my SSD comes soon so i actually have usable space without errors. the last couple things i installed it acts like it wasn't ever installed and goes through the whole C+ thing each time. that and terraria refused to even start

SW:TOR, while a fun game, isn't something that I'd honestly say you would want to fully go through -twice-. Least with the same character(s). I'm honestly giving up my chance to get it with my own cash by getting Skyrim, and I'm having absolutely no regrets.
Well, that was a brief go at Oblivion. Spent a couple hours installing Francesco's and a few other mods, including the mess with Wyre Bash and BOSS and OBMM; CTD'd more than 50% of the time changing areas; decided it wasn't worth fixing. Typical. :P

And yeah, what I've played (the first two out of five or six areas?) is pretty good so far. I dislike a lot of mods that add new areas because they don't fit with the world and lore but TR has been really good about making sure everything fits.

Set up an Australian VPN real quick, brought my release date up from a day and a few hours to 10 hours.
I don't know if they're doing regional unlocking or just a global unlock time, anyway, but it's not like it costs me anything either way to try.
Actually more excited about Giant Bomb's pre-Skyrim Elder Scrolls marathon with Dave and Ryan than I am Kasavin's run, mostly because I want to go into Skyrim completely fresh. I just hope there's an archive of the pre-Skyrim marathon, because I can't stay up until 3 AM just to watch the beginning of it, let alone the whole five hours.

I just want to say I agree completely. And have also been a beta tester in multiple tests now on SW: ToR. I wont say specifics, but right now...yeah, it isn't the hotness.

I wasn't aware there were two marathons. What time is the Dave/Ryan one?

Well Dave said something on his twitter about getting mods for Oblivion and Morrowind so probably those two.
Also gonna skip the Kasavin marathon. The only in game footage of Skyrim I've seen is from the first trailer, so going in super fresh and excited.

Yes and no, you can't just log in. You can however route through a VPN then log on to steam.

Yeah I'll probably be picking it up from Dick Smith.
I was going to order from the UK but now they are out of stock and I don't know when they are getting more.
So I'll probably just pay the $15 extra and get it tomorrow.

I didn't check Dick Smith (although looking online they seem to have it for $99?) Its $88 atJB.

Don't have a computer that can run it.
So its the slightly more expensive xbox version for me.
Ah. I recently shelled out an obscene amount of cash at PBtech for a Core i7, 16GB ram, GTX570 so it better run well on that!

You might be able to squeeze an extra 2 hours if you set up a New Zealand one? Although it wouldn't surprise me if they just lump us all together.

Yeah, I'm not sure. I've seen conflicting reports on it being a regional release or not.
The unlock time i have now equates to 7am my time, which is around when I wake up... so I'll report on if it works then.
I think that's the same as Australia.
Seconding this sentiment.
this is brilliant.
