there's plenty of great Japanese games that came out recently and set to come out soon
Mario Galaxy 2, Mario 3D Land, Skyward Sword, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Pokemon B&W, Mario Kart 7, Bayonetta, Vanquish, Lords of Shadow, Xenoblade, Dark Souls, Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations, Radiant Historia, Layton, Catherine, Kirby, Peace Walker
coming up soon is Revengeance, RE6, Dragon's Dogma, Pokemon B&W 2, whatever launches for Wii U
that's just stuff I can think of, I'm surely missing more. Japan's hurting but it's not dead, and its average output isn't as bad as whatever Square's doing.

Bayonetta's story and characters are incredibly silly and stupid. Like, too silly and stupid on more than one occasion. The gameplay, music and asthetic designs are incredible though

fighting games aren't even real games and nintendo is it's own country
So
Capcom,Namco,Sega, and Konami are?
Nothing Capcom has released in the last little bit has felt worth playing unless it was a fighting game (which aren't real) and Operation Racoon City has critically flopped, and from personal experience now is a bad game (tm)
Ridge Racer was a bust and they just put out Soul Calibur V which was just kind of ok and since Namco basically owns no worthwhile licenses unless they find a way to release PACMAN CE DX 2 (sequel to game of the year 2010) I've written them off
SEGA just massively laid off 80% of SEGA America's operating staff because they posted massive losses at the end of the quarter and have now reduced that entire publishing arm to only maintaining "Sonic, Football Manager, Total War and Aliens" because they're actually expected to produce some level of profit, so I don't really have much faith left since I haven't played a Sega-PUBLISHED game that I really enjoyed in a while
Silent Hill scares me and I don't think Metal Gear Solid is good and other than that I can't think of any worthwhile franchises that Konami maintains rights to

Donkey Kong was made by Retro. They're from Texas.

not a bad japanese video game to play, mind
...come to think of it it's the last one I played as well
But resident evil isn't a thing I like and I don't own a wii.
Satans..... hints.....
It is an anime disguised as a video game. Someone tell me this isn't an applicable description.

that seems very fitting. it also seems rad as hell, but way too expensive.
Maybe next week when my break starts.
The majority of those are Nintendo games.

I think I played a flash game like this once.
From Software does put out a good number of games, Armored Core V came out a couple weeks ago.
writing too many words to say nothing since 1895

From Software is the only company I like in Japan and the reason I haven't scribbled them off my map of the world in my office
Armored Core V is probably GOTY 2012
e: in case it wasn't previously clear to someone the statement "Japan is dead" is an opinion

Get back to me when America can make a fighting game that doesn't feel like you're controlling glued-together popsicle sticks.
What about Morta-...
Right.
that was a year ago
EDIT: No, wait, that's just when I managed to find a copy in shops.
skullgirls?
this game was a movie
a fucking AWESOME movie
yeah but i wanted to play a game, not watch interactive FMV
The AV Club just spun off their own completely games-related site
I'm sorry Orik, you gave it a good shot
but anyway Lords of Shadow is a great game so fie to the notion that Konami owns nothing worthwhile
