All beauteous things for which we live
By laws of time and space decay.
But O, the very reason why
I clasp them, is because they die.
This poem was set to music (circa 1994) by the English songwriter and composer William D. Drake and performed by his psychedelic acoustic band, Lake Of Puppies.

i really want to go for a long run. damn me for letting myself get fat. i seriously miss long distance running. this is taking so long, bleh.
I've been cultivating mass for a couple of days
I think I'm gonna go to the gym tomorrow to prove to myself that I'm going to start once the semester ends later this week. I'm getting impatient but the rest of the week there just isn't time. it'll be like a mission statement day.

ok, the parts that have Dara O'Briain aren't actually too bad
@BobCesca have you read Anne Carson's translations and ruminations on Mimnermos?
No, I haven't. Any good?
Actually, I have read her Autobiography of Red, which is based loosely on the myth of Geryon and the Tenth Labor of Herakles, especially on surviving fragments of the lyric poet Stesichorus' poem Geryoneis as part of a Greek lyric course I taught a couple of years ago.

nah, I wish I was more aggressive with it although I'm glad I'm not loud.
"Attack now or never; with a single ship, or all the force in the Empire; by military force or economic pressure; by candid declaration of war or by treacherous ambush. Do whatever you wish in your fullest exercise of freewill. You will still lose."
"Because of Hari Seldon's dead hand?"
"Because of the dead hand of the mathematics of human behavior that can neither be stopped, swerved, nor delayed."
The two faced each other in deadlock, until the general stepped back.
He said simply, "I'll take that challenge. It's a dead hand against a living will."

I like her collection of essays and poetry Plainwater, although I've lingered on her attempt to flesh out Mimnermos.
They're interesting (in that they attempt to replicate the underlying tone of the fragments more so than their literal translation). Her commentaries on his personal brand of hedonism and her imagined interviews with him are particularly superb though.

I love Dara O'Briain. Easily my favourite comedian.
I saw his new show live back in February. It was fantastic.
However the maths show thingy he's doing right now on Dave? awful.
My friend worked on that!
I watched the first episode. The guest comic seemed to be either very uninterested or very nervous, which kind of put me off the show. Dara is plenty enthusiastic and obviously smart, but the format seemed a bit weak.

That I've watched regularly as it airs?
...actually I don't know that I've ever done that.
But devoured via DVD/streaming until there was nothing left but my burning desire for "moar god damnit!"?
Well... there's been a few.
I don't watch much tv so I wouldn't know. I've only seen his live shows.

I caught an episode when I was crashing at a friends house.
Now I must share the pain, you must all suffer as I did.

But oh my god is the build-up to that point driving freaking batty.
Anti-numerical analysis.
The TV channel? It runs repeats of Top Gear all the time and a few comedy shows like Argumental and suchlike.
