Welcome to Eurovision! This year the event takes place the week of 21 May. Semi-Final 1 is on 22 May, Semi-Final 2 is on 24 May and the Grand Final is on 26 May. The 2012 contest is to be held in Baku Crystal Hall, in Azerbaijan after Azerbaijan won the contest in 2011 with Running Scared by Eli & Nikki.. Yes we know Azerbaijan isn't in Europe, shut up.

Viewers in the countries of the participating broadcasters are invited to vote for their favourite songs without the possibility of voting for the song representing their own country) by means of televoting, which shall be implemented in all the participent countries. In both Semi-Finals and in the Final, the final scores of the songs in each country shall be calculated on the basis of both the results of televoting and the jury's vote.

Once all the songs have been performed, the results shall be announced. In each Semi-Final, the ten songs which have received the highest number of points from the combination of the televoting and jury points shall be selected for the Final.

GRAND FINAL TONIGHT FROM 21:00 TO 23:00 CET, WATCH HERE: http://www.eurovision.tv/esctv/future/?program=47113

The top 10 countries from the semi-finals will join Azerbaijan, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom in the Grand Final. Those last 4 get in the final automatically because they pay for a large portion of the costs of the event, so they’re total cheatyfaces who are bribing their way to the top. We could've been having a final free from Humperdinck if not for your tax money, Britain. Think about that.

Azerbaijan - Sabina Babayeva - When The Music Dies

France - Anggun - Echo (You and I)

Germany - Roman Lob - Standing Still

Italy - Nina Zilli - L'Amore È Femmina (Out Of Love)

Spain - Pastora Soler - Quédate Conmigo (Stay With Me)

United Kingdom - Engelbert Humperdinck - Love Will Set You Free

And it's no Eurovision thread without the good ol eurovisionvoting.jpg

My favourite so far is definitely Russia. It's a gang of Matryoshka doll grannies singing a song called Party For Everybody. I can't not win. 8->

I really recommend everyone looking at this thread to give the Ukraine 2007 entry a listen because it's pretty much everything Eurovision can possibly aspire to be.

Oh my god! Ask your parents they'll know who he is, he is admittedly a bit ancient.

Yes, the Ukraine 2007 is uh-maz-ing.

I'm just pretending the Dutch entry doesn't exist.

Moldova this year is tragically saxless, and their new addition of a trumpet is not enough to make it up.

I love how political Eurovision is, and the fact in the midst of these perfectly calculated political moves someone selected Ukraine 2007

Compared to the Euro and wasteful farming quotas and insane fishing restrictions?

Eurovision is an incredible thing, that gives both the amazing and the horrific.

I still don't know whether Moldova should be commended, or nuked from orbit for unleashing "Epic Sax Guy" upon an unsuspecting internet.

    Welp

It was a good run. 4 years. Pretty surprising, really, how long I've managed to last. But, those days are over now. The cycle repeats itself, because nothing ever really changes.

Oh yes, it's back. Moskau is stuck in my head once more. Thank you, Eurovision thread.
