Seriously everyone in here should watch "The Element of Crime", Von Trier's first movie and one of his best.
I'M NOT FINISHED WITH YOU!!!

Antichrist is terrifyingly well made. The subjwct matter, and the way it handles it, is incredibly distressing, and the director is probably massively misogynistic.

I went in knowing that it would involve
genital mutation
and literally nothing else about the movie.
I would recommend it to people who are fans of psychological horror and have a strong-ish stomach, because it is legit good. You can turn away from the graphic stuff if you need to, it is brief, mostly.

yeah i need to watch it again i think but holy fuck does that movie make von trier seem like a dude who has problems with ladies
He was apparently really depressed when he wrote Antichrist
However, I'll also argue with your calling it this shit, because it is really good and art that accomplishes its intended purpose
Even before the awful parts of it, you are so damn uncomfortable
The movie is a masterpiece of discomfort
and in some people's opinion, something created solely to disgust and cause discomfort for no other reason than to wallow in the grotesque is shit not worth caring about.

Yeah
I'm rather sympathetic to that view myself

I don't think Antichrist is wallowing in the grotesque. It is not Hostel, it's not even Saw. It is telling a story, straight up. A story that happens to be very uncomfortable and involve some aspects of psychological terror.
Like, are you bros not cool with horror because it is designed to scare you?
Generally I try to subscribe to what TLB said up there, but I'm gonna go ahead and say that Hostel is disgusting and irredeemable and if you like it then I will avoid you like the sociopath you most likely are
I liked funny games quite a bit, it is weird though, I mean it's entirely meant to be disturbing seeing as it's a commentary on violence as entertainment. I don't know how successful it is seeing as
I would have assumed it's never meant to let up, we're not supposed to be given an out that we can feel good about, but that tension dissipates once it says definitively 'hey guys it's all a movie here'

Slasher, gore-heavy horror films always seemed boring to me.
I'm a much bigger fan of thrillers like Silence of the Lambs & Se7en.

and then it was so much worse than I had imagined
what is it
I'm not sure why. Probably because it was on Netflix instant, and Willem Dafoe was in it.
But man
sketchyblargh / Steam! / Tumblr Prime
welp good thing I know not to see this movie

I....i want to be alone
Coran Attack!
he's obviously a competent director
so why does he make this shit
Because he's kinda batshit.
He also has major issues with:
Women
The USA
Humans
Life in general.
His latest film's thesis was "Life is inherently evil, so on the whole Earth being destroyed would be a good thing."
Why I fear the ocean.
Who's Gene Hunt, btw?
Right. Someone needs to watch Life on Mars.
(The someone is you. You need to watch Life on Mars.)
Why I fear the ocean.
a movie to make wanted look good
I hate this meme

Anyone who has seen Noe's "Irréversible" knows what I'm talking about.

just 'cause you don't like something, it doesn't make it bad
how do you measure how good something is otherwise?
huh.
I think I'm going to go back to watching people play video games on YouTube.
Like, are you bros not cool with horror because it is designed to scare you?
so I guess no
I don't really like being made uncomfortable or scared, and this seems pretty reasonable to me
and I do think that something made just to wallow in it's own depravity can be discarded for that
I don't really speak for any opinions on this movie, though, since I've not seen it
In contrast to say, Machine Girl, which made me physically sick to my stomach to watch.
Also on my list. From that day I added pretty much everything about rape to my instant queue.
All I'm saying is it did its job pretty well, and I think I'll pass.
I'm a much bigger fan of thrillers like Silence of the Lambs & Se7en.
