I do a pre-workout meal because I'm hungry after work and a post-workout shake because of anecdotal evidence.

I think a lot of pre and post workout nutrition involves figuring out what works for you (studies and information are always helpful guides, though!). I personally eat an average size meal about 3-4 hours before working out (I lift right after work, so lunch around 12:30, lifting at 4:30). Afterwards I'll eat a huge amount of food, and usually a shake right when I get home because it takes me time to prepare said "huge amount of food".
Oh god damn it, the other forum I go on just got over a big argument over pre/post workout stuff(specifically if carbs were good or bad lost workout). It was a clusterfuck. Personally I say do whatever works for you. I eat a few hours before lifting, but just because I work out a few hours after waking up. Then post workout I do a protein shake, and often a piece of toast with peanut butter for carbs and more protein.
If it fits your macros, do it. Pay attention to your body and adjust from there.
Ended up making some tin foil pouch soups with flank steak, potatoes, carrots and corn. Looks ridiculously tasty, and since I precooked them, all I have to do is throw them onto the coals to heat. Been on the road for 5.5 hours. Coos bay, why you so far away?
For my pre-workout drink, I take Cellucor C4. It gives me a great boost of energy, and some nice pumps to add. Makes you pee a lot while working out though.
For my post-workout drink, within 15 minutes of working out I take a post-workout supplement shake. I was taking Monster Amino, but I'm now taking PVL Total Reload. They're nice in that I don't get too sore the next day and all that. Then 30-45 minutes after taking my pre-workout, I take my 2 scoops of Gaspari Myofusion protein shake.
I'll pull up some scientific articles in a bit, but for now, I personally just make sure I am always eating, so when I work out, I almost always have the proper fuel. Post workout is another large snack of some sort, because I'm hungry. I believe in caffeine/b12 stimulating pre-workouts, simply because they have been proven over and over again to have a stimulating effect that some people need to give themselves that extra push in their workouts; I am hyper-sensitive to caffeine so I do not take them. I have yet to see confirmed, proven evidence that the "metabolic fire" actually exists. The studies I read that supposedly proved the phenomenon were done on starved individuals... so yeah... anyway, articles to come

Out of curiosity how many of you use vitamin supplements? What kinds? And how often? An for what reasons? I've been wondering if there's any that I should consider to help boost my energy levels and general health levels
I take multivitamins. I think it helps since I'm not a big fan of vegetables :P Not saying I'm completely ruling out veggies, but I don't eat them as much. I eat fruits though!
This year I went through three different brands of multivitamins. The first one was Allmax Vitastack. It was a 9-pill multivitamin. I realize that I didn't need that much of what they have in there. I then switched to OptiMen by Optimum Nutrition. It was only a 3-pill one and it was great. I was gonna continue with it but the supplement store that I normally buy it from were sold out of it so I went to my local grocery store and found Jamieson Sports multi. They were the cheapest amongst all of them.
I used to take Optimen, I think I would buy again but I was with my parents last year and they were buying me groceries/stuff.. so i just grabbed a bottle of centrum 1-a-day.
I used to take the animal pack stuff...but that, in my opinion, is total overkill

As a head's up I will be in costume for all three days so if you see a dude wearing a Canadian flag as a cape feel free to stop him and say hi. It's probably me! (other two costumes just kinda blend in)

I'll also be in costume all three days as well. Friday is C. Viper, Saturday is Bayonetta, and Sunday is fem-Dhalsim. If you see me, come say hi! (bonus: I may have bacon to share with people)
I will be in costume as well. Friday is green dragon. Saturday is Ada Wong. Sunday is Sweet Tooth. And Mogs, I'll have to find you via the scent of BACON!!!
How to people feel about posting mugshots/progress pictures? I can post one of me this evening or more likely, tomorrow. I don't have my ideal body yet, but I'm quite proud of the progress I've made the past 3 months and I want to thank you all for being here and being supportive of each other.
Progress pictures are great, in my opinion. They're also far more telling compared with the scale or measuring tape. I really wish I had taken some "before" photos prior to kicking the fitness and diet into high gear.

Bacon... well now I have no choice but to find you.
I've already posted a progress pic so that should tell you how I feel about them. Also makes the meet-up easier when we know who we're looking for.

PayneTrayne, I did see your pic and I forgot to comment on it. I apologize for that. The difference is night and day! It's really inspiring and I know you must be proud of all your hard work!
I was just saying that they're cool to post, so please, post away. I feel kinda weird. >.>
Also I think that was in December of 2010. Started dieting in August of 2011.

Just gotta say sometimes work can really, really, really suck. Like 80 hour, all-nighter suck. Good news is we won in the end, and PAX is right around the corner to sooth all my ailments.
So to catch up:
- Sunday 1pm meetup at the "office tower"
- PPP (walking groups forming @ the Shearton?)
- pre workout nutrition: protein bar, coffee sometimes
- post workout nutrition: protein shake, normal/large sized meal
- supplements: fish oil, multi vitamin
I just wanted to say to @Mogs, @Bombchelle, @SquirrelOnFire on the challenge DAAAAMMMMMMM! Those are some huge numbers good job.
I also propose some sort of battle cry for easier identification in large areas. Maybe "Tripple Bacon"?
Oh and I'll be active on twitter and G+ during PAX.
I will have my phone on me, number's 519 560 7063 if you're curious about the start time or anything like that.
I'm not sure about official walking groups for PPP but I'm probably cabbing (I hear there's a lot of construction in the area).

It doesn't look like it, but I certainly made a lot of progress ever since I seriously started working out 3 months ago. I've never been overweight, but ever since after college, I've never been as fit as I would have liked to be. Even though I only lost two pounds and maybe an inch off my waist and hips each, I'm at 13% body fat (down 3% from when I started) and I've been stronger than I can ever remember being in my life. I can do 5 pull ups and at least 5 handstand pushups. I can squat at least 150 pounds and can probably squat more, but I don't have access to the proper equipment too tell for sure. I'm making it a thing now whenever anybody asks if they can pick me up, I say, "Sure, if you let me you up first." Limit 220 pounds. In case you're wondering, I'm 4'11" and female, so guys at bars somehow think it's okay to try to pick me up. Cue impressive stares when I lift a guy twice my size.
I want to thank this group for motivating me throughout the past three months. I wouldn't have worked as hard as I did if it wasn't for the competition and motivation from you all. I can't wait to meet you all at the meetup or even before! I know a lot of you will be at the TWDT, so we should all enjoy a round together!
Here are my pictures. I didn't have any good "before" pictures, so the difference is not that noticeable. Left is from a year ago. Right is from an hour ago.

Squirrel Challenge completed! Did 160x5 last night. /flex
Didn't think I was going to make it myself, but in my final pre-pax workout, I (barely) managed 235x5. Now for annual fitness goal #2 - ending the year under 200 lb. That seems like it will be much less fun, since it involves a lot of diet modification, and will have to be somewhat drastic since I have been eating more than normal to try to build muscle.
Competing and collaborating with you guys has gotten me off the couch and into the gym a few times over the past few months, so thanks, all of you.
(as for why that was my last chance, I am travelling for work this week, and will be at the mercy of my hotel's gym, which will almost certainly not include a power rack & barbell - This is your chance to pass me on Fitocracy, bomchelle & no use for a name).
@vgc, and the rest of you are gonna make me feel like a weakling at the meetup. Which, um, I am. I'm only half way through my weight loss goal of 100 lbs. Started in Jan. lost 50 lbs and for the past two months the scale has been frozen. The first challenge was highly motivating; everyday it was like "hey if I go downstairs (apartment gym) and do 30 min on the elliptical I can get some more points, sweet!". I'm still a lifting noob only benching like 125 and squating 175 which for a big 6' 4" guy like me is pathetic.
I took a week off from exercising because of life shit and basically drank a shit ton. I dont feel like my body is any different, despite being 12~ pounds in the last couple months(167-155~). It's kind of a bummer not seeing results, but I pretty much hit my goal for weight for pax, and I guess my body has more muscle, and I can lift more. Sorry for sounding apathetic!
I will also we dressing up for pax! Probably all three days. For those of you who have played saint row 3, or aren't too lazy to Google, I'm dressing up as a Deckers Specialist. For those not in the know and too lazy, look for a chick with a dark blue wig and black clothes lit up tron style.
Just played through SR3, seriously considered doing a Decker as well. But alas, I'm a lazy ass when it comes to work. So, let's get some more mugshots if possible!

I really hope I get a chance to see your costume - Saint's Row is one of my favorites!
In other news, I pulled 210 on my deadlift last night. I had sort of unrealistically hoped to get to 2 plates (225) by PAX, but I'm close, and I'll be there soon.
@Alika, "Triple Bacon" sounds like an amazing battle cry for all of us!
So I accidentally cut my right middle finger last night while cutting sweet potatoes to be roasted. 90 minutes at the emergency and 3-4 stitches later, it's all covered up and I'm hoping my Wolverine-like healing will kick in soon :P
Now it looks like I won't be able to do workouts requiring me to grip on something - basically EVERYTHING! And I'm frustrated about it. I think I should be able some leg machine exercises and some abs, but that's basically it.
Just played through SR3, seriously considered doing a Decker as well. But alas, I'm a lazy ass when it comes to work. So, let's get some more mugshots if possible!
I had a whole group at first of like 6 people, every one of them dropped last minute. Grumble.
@Mogs, since I'll most likely be wearing it all three days, you should run into me at some point. Feel free to come say hi!
Here's the closest thing I have to a mugshot. This is right after I finished run for your lives. Notice all the piercings(my most recognizable feature, or will be in costume:
