When I see embedded Youtube videos instead of being able to play them in my current window (the one where the discussion is occurring), the videos act as a link and I am taken to the video's Youtube page.
Yeah, I assumed the first I ran across was an animated gif, actually.
I have them disabled by default on the forums, so not seeing it move didn't confuse me - right-clicking it and seeing the link menu instead of the image menu did.
Can't wait for the fix. Every time I click on a video now it opens it in Youtube on the same page. And of course hitting back sends me to the last page of the thread.

They actually are images. It like, automatically inserts an image with a link.

Maybe the worst part about this issue is that when you click on a video you want to watch it launches in the same tab that the page you're on is in, so that when you hit the back button you also get hit by the "latest" post issue and you lose your place in the thread.

Yes, I know. Nothing "like" about it - it pulls the file from img.youtube.com/videoname/0.jpg.
To be overly specific, I could have said, "... and seeing the wrong menu did". But, I figured my point would get across - I had link-related options where I wasn't expecting to see them.
The arrow changes colors if you mouse over, but otherwise doesn't do anything for me

Checking the embedded youtube videos at home, on Google Chrome, Windows 7, they work fine.

It looks like they changed the scripts; instead of actually loading the embedded flash youtube window when the page is opened, now it generates a preview image with a clickable Youtube-style button on it. When you click is when you actually have the Flash page load.
This looks like it'll have quite a lower overhead, which is awesome when the Youtube page used to absolutely destroy my framerate.

Firefox also seems to at least show the image and allow the go to Youtube to view the video. It seems to only be affecting IE8 (or maybe other versions of IE as well).

I'm using firefox 16.0.2, it lets me middle click to open videos in a new tab, and occasionally (but not every time) single click on the part that's not the arrow to load the youtube page in the same tab, but still refuses to do an inline video play

I'm still getting the goofy embeds, Win7x64 Chrome(latest)...by goofy I guess it just shows the pick a non-clickable play button, you click anywhere but the button and it takes you directly to youtube instead of playing in the embedded player.
edit: magically it worked on one of the threads, not sure why.

With the new configuration (which, by the way, would probably be good if it consistently works, because of the lower overhead), OCCASIONALLY the play button will actually load the video, embedded, the way Youtube videos worked before the change. But usually it doesn't do anything, and clicking anywhere outside the play button causes the video to load in the same tab, NOT a new tab/window. I prefer the new tab/window method, personally, especially in combination with the "when you hit the back button to a page with #latest in the URL, it takes you to the last post in the thread, even if you weren't there yet" issue.

Clicking them doesn't do anything for me and the button itself is way off center, sitting on the line between the post box and the user info. The only way to see stuff is quote someone, and then copy paste the link.

I'm on IE8, Windows 2010.
This seems to be consistant with IE8. Only way I can get it to at least view the image to allow me to get to youtube is to go into compatibility mode, which messes up other things on the forum.

Didn't think of compatibility mode, but yeah, using that does mess up other things on the forums.
Seems to be working fine in the latest version of Opera.

This is still messed up in Chrome on Windows 8. As in, I get the preview picture with the play arrow box in the middle of it, the box changes colour when I mouse over it, but does nothing when I click on it. However, if I click on the preview image it opens the video on Youtube in the same tab.
I'm on Chrome/Win7 and the embed doesn't work for me, yet it appears there are Chrome users here that are fine. Did you Chrome users change any settings to get it to work or just wait for fix?
Clearing your cache may help, as the fix was a change to one of the javascript scripts.
Didn't help me, embedding youtube videos still show up as img (and even then, just the play icon) outside of IE8 compatibility mode, and it really only changes to a link when I switch compadibility mode on.
As some of you have guessed, the idea behind this was to lower the overhead of pages that hand multiple youtube videos embedded, as well as to ameliorate the long standing flash problem where flash always renders above other elements. It uncovered a bug in some 3rd party html scrubbing code we use which is causing it to malfunction in some (but not all) cases.
Pain in the ass to debug, but its near the top of the priority list.

With the previous version you could set it so that the video started at a particular timestamp. Would it be possible to get that with the new system?

Rock on. I think the bigger annoyance of this is that they just looked like images people were posting.

Does middle clicking on any link do that? It's possible that's just the shortcut for opening in a new tab, a la ctrl-click.
