So I just woke up from a dream where I was reading a book that I hadn't previously known existed from some favorite author of mine.
And through the whole thing I was like, oh man this is a pretty intriguing setup, it's really starting to get good
And then the last scene is the girl leaving her room and outside of her room the rest of her house has changed to winter and she sees her mom sitting in the kitchen with a beer, looking like she's been crying, and the girl's like "whaaat's going on?" and her mom looks up.
And then the book ends and I go, "OH GOD DAMNIT IT TURNED OUT TO BE A TRILOGY"
And then I woke up
fffuuuuuuuuu

This same dude, while I'm sitting around the fire with 30-ish people, walks over and says very directly "Hey. The hawk finds candy in the belltower. Tell him."
And then proceeds to manage this game of telephone, shouting across the fire at people to keep it going and that they only get one shot. Had the effect of a bunch of disparate small groups suddenly becoming engaged with one another.
It is interesting how because Norway has mandatory service and no lower-ranking NCOs that sergeants are thought of in a similar vein as second lieutenants
everything not a private or corporal is "befal" short for "befalingsmann" - man who commands
fenrik, second lieutenant, are the lowest rank called officers but it's largely just a name.
In my troop anyway, the sergeants and the fenriks were the people most directly running you. My section didn't even have a sergeant. The lieutenants were troop commanders and that was there the more admin bit started.

I liked that mini-episode of Avatar where the tomboy character Tosh is dragged to the spa and then has a great time and then plunges some catty women into a river.
There aren't a lot of female TV writers and that episode was written by a woman and its a great story that I have hard time imagining coming from a man
I feel the same way about the Firefly episode "Shindig"
In conclusion there should be more female writers/directors
although most of the second lieutenants never went to the war school, they were just sergeants with a promotion.
We had The Cadet who was a second lieutenant fresh out of the war school who was to take over after my lieutenant. He was really the only "officer" second lieutenant I can remember.
I don't even remember his name because he just was "the Cadet" even when he was a lieutenant and my troop commander.
Man, that horse meat story. Some guy here in Sweden is outraged because he wasn't allowed to buy the food with horse meat... so he could give it to the poor.
"We don't know how this meat was produced and it might be shot full of steroids and horse medicine and shit that's harmful to humans. We can't sell it because of that. Let's feed it to the poor!"

We'd also have to give the homeless microwaves so they could heat up their ready meals. It's a logistical nightmare.

maybe they could finally put their inexplicably-always-lit oil drums with burning trash to some use

The Food Standards Agency here had a bit of difficulty with that too. Soon after the story broke they went on record as saying it was safe to consume, until it was pointed out that given the provenance of the meat is entirely unknown, they might want to rethink that position somewhat.

Considering how many drugs cattle is jacked up on, I think the horse might actually be safer

This is a good man to know
Perhaps I shall pass that along to my friend and his wife.
(they've been married almost three years, and it's still weird to write "his wife". Does that weirdness ever go away?)

I was in that movie

Every time I see Sean Pertwee in a movie I wonder why that guy never got bigger roles.
Seems he got typecast as the "charismatic guy that gets disposed of early in the scifi movie" role.
eh

I pretty much only really like that song.
It's one of those rare tracks where live versions invariably sound better than anything studio recorded.
You have just over an hour to do so!

Austan Goolsbee's comment is the best comment.

To be fair
I fired 160 arrows in total!
And I wanted to guarantee writing you a letter (though by now I've forgotten what I wrote)
And my average ratio arrow fired : letter was 1:10
So, yeah
