Seeing a whole lot of "E3 just got real" posts around the internet.
Really? Dropping to match the competitor that is utterly destroying you is "getting real?"
Sony doesn't really need to do anything except stay on course. They have a head start, and Microsoft will only just be on pace this Fall. They're doing things very right and have Morpheus to build towards.
If you like Harmonix as a dev, you may want to go throw some money at the Amplitude kickstarter and sign up for the Chroma (PC) Alpha today. They'll still get their Dance Central/Fantasia sales, but their market cap just shrank. Or maybe they'll make PS4/Camera versions now.

I can safely assume there's not gonna be a PS4 price drop or new model at E3, right? Otherwise I may wait. :P

Yeah, that Amplitude kickstarter isn't looking so great.

Doubtful but E3 isn't too far off so you may want to wait anyways. Xbone just dropped it's mandatory Kinect (The final move in the removal of the last of their stupid forced concepts, about time) and dropped the price of the console to $399
I wouldn't put it past Sony to rub salt in the wound with some sort of price reduction, but I wouldn't count on it either. If you can wait, i would, if only because it's not like the price is going to go up

Man, imagine what would happen if Nintendo announced an x86-based console on par or better than PS4/XBONE hardware with no gimmicky gamepad or motion controls.

They'll make that announcement right before MS/Sony announce they're doing some other architecture change. Like switching to GPU Compute or something.

I think the implication is that since Microsoft is announcing this now to go into effect at E3, this means they must be rather confident about what games they are going to show there., as there's no way the June 9th date isn't part of a marketing strategy.
Microsoft is absolutely relying on E3 to push them closer to Sony's numbers(especially as the announcement is going to tank May sales), so in a weird way, this does provide more hype for E3, because Microsoft HAS to have at least one bombshell in their arsenal, or this is all for nothing.
lol no, my parents paid for me and my wife to go. Somehow my mom feels like she owes it to us since she bought us a 50" HDTV when we got married instead of paying for our honeymoon trip (which was her original plan). Honestly, the only negative -- barring any crazy cruise shit -- is that E3 will be going on while I'm on my way to Bermuda. I'll have my Vita loaded up with FFX/X-2, Sorcery Saga, Dragon's Crown and Soul Sacrifice, so it's all good.
Yeah but on the negative side you'll be surrounded by old people who smell of wee and get in your way. Plus, have you seen Poseidon?

Don't listen to these guys. Cruises are awesome. I go on a cruise every winter and have a blast. You get to wake up every day and be in a different country! It doesn't get any better than that.
I'm still expecting Sony's surprise to be that PS1/2 upscaling emulation rumor that has been going around, and maybe some nice bonuses/discounts for PSNow if you have PS+.
That way Sony can say "ok yeah we both cost the same, but not only are we more powerful, there's four consoles in one!"

It's funny how Microsoft felt compelled to drop the Kinect, and yet the PS Camera is selling like gangbusters.
I wonder why MS hasn't peeked over the fence and said "Oh, now I get it, we need to develop a version of Playroom so that people can use the Kinect to stream amature talk shows and drunk sluts to the internet. "

Ah, drunken sluts, the true watermark of quality in a technology product.
Sony's big E3 announcement will be the PS4 is bundled with the Playstation Camera at the same $399 price.
It would especially be funny since the PS4 camera works really darn well at half of the Kinect's price, and has never been billed as "necessary" by Sony.
It would be classy of MS to throw a bone to the retailers who have unsold inventory of the old SKUs. Not just "hey, good news, you can order a bunch of the new un-bundle."
Probably won't happen, though, given how Redmond keeps trotting out the "shipped to retailers" figures.

I liked Killzone, but the multiplayer lacks weapon variety and the unlocks are mostly just cooldown upgrades for the abilities, so I lost interest. From what I've heard, it's all but dried up now.
Mostly, I've been playing Pinball Arcade, Warframe, Ghosts, and Infamous. Though I took a break to clear out some PS3 and 360 backlog.

I just pray for the day I can actually browse and search the Netflix library using my voice.
According to Patrick's video the XB1 can only sort of do that and through arbitrary hoops, so if Sony can pull it off properly...
The reason Netflix searching on the Xbone doesn't meet Patrick's standards is because he refuses to search through the Bing shared-search library instead of the Netflix app (he refuses to do a lot of things to make the experience better, but that's not here nor there). Netflix doesn't give a shit about implementing any of MS's voice crap nor would they on the PS4. What's MS or Sony going to do when Netflix holds all of the power in this situation? They could push with "make your voice search work this well" and Netflix could threaten them back with pulling their app and make either of them shit their pants. Unless Sony pays Netflix out the ass to make their voice search better than Microsoft's just so they can score a small victory against them there's no way they're going to waste any development time getting it working.

Why would they need something awesome at E3 to counter a bunch of announcements that merely brought a losing competitor to parity in those specific areas?
What an odd choice. I thought it was yes/no situation. Can't imagine that many people wanted PS1 backwards compatibility on the PS3, but wither didn't care about PS2 games or didn't pick up the original model.
It's because the PS3 has easily enough power to Emulate the PS1 architecture and games.
The PS2 backwards compatibility was because the first-gen PS3's literally had an entire PS2 inside of them (well, the core components).
The PS2 used the PS1s CPU as a sound chip! They just left the PS1 BIOS in and if you put a PS1 disc in the PS1 CPU fired up and did its thing. So in actual fact, if you have an original model fat PS3 that has the PS2 circuitry in it, you have three consoles in one.
Sorry to ruin the dream but nope. The PS1 CPU was eventually removed from the PS2 as a cost cutting move (replaced with a cheaper chip) and backwards compatibility was done via emulation. Also, they only included the Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer in the very first PS3 model (the second line, first available at the PAL launch, removed the Emotion Engine, emulating it instead).

I think some people are living in a fantasy world with this announcement that MS are offering a Kinectless SKU and that somehow this will allow them to catch up to the PS4 in sales. I simply don't see it. The fact remains that some UK retailers slashed the price of the Xbox One with Titanfall to £349 (the very MSRP the Kinectless SKU will be in the UK) and it still failed to make an impact. If they can't sell the Xbox One at that price WITH the Kinect (in one of Xbox's more favourable territories) why would it suddenly start shifting units without it? Retailers would have to reduce the price of the Kinectless SKU even further which seems nothing short of a race to the bottom. I mean, sure, if they start knocking them out at WiiU prices then they might actually sell millions of units but it's going to be something of a hollow victory, isn't it?*
That analyst is nuts. Without Kinect, the One's only selling points are going to be the games. So far, with resolution wars going on, Xbone has been losing that war handily. This means their fate lies in 1st party games and exclusives.
I think Microsoft was banking on Titanfall selling systems for them. That didn't work as planned.
I think it's been proved to a reasonable degree that there's no such thing as a holy grail system seller game anymore, so there's no real reason to expect the Xbone to have a larger install base in the future.
Sony would have to really screw up, or Microsoft would have to do something balls-out crazy.

I don't think this is true. I think that if the hardware and price were even, then it would once more come down to system seller exclusives. But Microsoft dropped the ball on that, so exclusives are rather low on the list of system selling reason this gen.
It will be interesting to see if Sony moves the price of the PS4 in Canada back down to $400 (they jacked it up to $450 a few months ago), seeing as the XB1 is going to be $400 here when the new SKU hits.

It's still selling through pretty consistently. I'm not sure why they would give away a bunch of potential profits just for shits and giggles.
Little sad that the Kinnect is dead but not terribly sad.

Is it actually selling really well? Or is just heavily supply-constrained? I've never really seen this in stock anywhere.
The last I heard they had sold something like 900k cameras and still couldn't keep it in stock. I'd say that's selling really well for what it is.

The 1st Gen PS3 plays 99.99% of PS2 games. The 2nd Gen where it's 50% emulation and 50% hardware plays like... 70-80%.
