This is from the RPG thread (which people should post in!), on the merits of "old school" gameplay:
My view is that the greatest thing about RPGs is that they give you the opportunity to create a character who has a real existence in his or her world, as opposed to the pure surrogate for the player featured in a game like Halo or Mario. To this end, I prefer games that are stat dependant because when the PC's actions suceed or fail based on his stats that makes him seem like a real part of his world, as opposed to an action RPG like Oblivion where the most important determinant in the success of failure if the character is the Player's skill with the controller (so that a highly skilled archer can miss all the time if the player is bad at aiming, for example). For me, nothing breaks immersion like hwving a character who is supposed to be good at something based on state fail a lot or succeed all the time at things he is bad at based on his stats, in each case because I am good (or bad) with a controller or mouse.
SpaceX to buld and launch a satellite network for unrestricted internet access. It would break the monopoly telecom companies have over the North American market. Best news I read since the last best news I read.

Except that they will all blow up before reaching orbit. . .

Whenever I read this sort of thing I get this swell of near-nationalistic pride in my chest, and start thinking phrases like "global citizenship" and "true freedom"

Satellite internet already exists, and it sucks balls.

So? Explosion-based internet access is still more reliable than Comcast.
I'm actually really pumped about heroes of the storm. Mostly because it looks like there is some variation in the maps and it looks a little bit more slick.
I mean, I'm okay with ARAM, but I do like a little bit of laning.

Extra History just did the dominoes leading to the war. You are safe from hearing about "incompetent" generals line.
Also it is nice that they went through and did an extra 15 minutes explaining their mistakes and why they chose one narrative or another.

But one woman accounts for 2/3 of women posts in this thread. Down with the 1%!
