Bought 10 holiday backgrounds that were selling at minimum price, worth 100 gems a piece.
You can then pack your gems into sacks of 1000 in your Inventory and sell those sacks off on the market if you want too.....crazy
The Gems remain after the auction ends.
They can be used to create booster packs.
And now I'm considering it. I have lots of things That sit there. I am not bidding, but maybe make gems. make booster packs. Sell cards. Hum... I just removed all my listings. And the market warned me I need to get tax info to Steam. Um, I sell to many items it seams.
Basically it's going to be people buying up mass quantities of cheap items to turn into gems, which they will then use to swoop in at last minute on auctions to greatly outbid everyone, then turn their game into trade bait for other stuff.
Well, I think I'd rather have the 5 bucks from all my cards. That Holiday profile would be nice, but there's no way I could get one. Newer cards are worth more than the old ones, I might have 1500 gems.
The bots are on the case. I just saw one guy buy 100 copies of Background B at .03 a pop.
Heck I just bought 100 copies of a background at .03 a pop. Pretty easy to do with the Buy orders.
Figure at the very least I can churn it into booster packs later.
For those who fell victim to the phishing bullshit a few days ago, could you let me know if your Steam cards and Badge rewards are intact? Because mine are completely gone.
Sent a Steam Support ticket request, hopefully they can fix whatever got fucked with my account.
I wish that there was a place which listed gem value of emoticons/backgrounds.
I've had a ton of things listed for a very long time and I'm probably close to the front of the 3 cent queue to get my penny for them. I don't want to remove them just to find out what they're worth.
Not sure what to think of that. The collector in me is hesitant to burn much in the way of backgrounds or emotes even though I rarely ever use them.
I wonder what, if anything happens when the sale begins.
Yeah, I'm a little torn as well. I don't want to get rid of all of the backgrounds and emotes that I've collected, even though I've never used any of the emotes even once and thanks to the previous sale meta games I have a lot of them that are worth 100 gems.
It would be a non factor as I have no interest in bidding for games, I'd rather just buy them outright and avoid the hassle. But the idea of converting excess gems into booter packs on the other hand...

Kind of wish I didn't take pet pal perk in Divinity OS now.
Came across the dog looking for his master in the Cyseal graveyard.
"Jake? Where are you, Jake? Are you playing without me?"

I'm waiting until the booster pack page acutally works to find out the mechanics before finally doing everything.
I'm holding onto my "1 of everything" emoticons, but I'm going to burn a TON of backgrounds - I only keep ones I might actually use.

I just pulled mine and made gems. I'm going for booster packs. Although I did make a very small bid to get the badge for participation.

In the week prior to the summer sale, you didn't get points for your teams. I crafted one badge and didn't get gems for crafting, but I expect you'll end up getting like....10 gems for crafting a normal, 100 for crafting a foil, or something like that.
10,000,000 - 20 gems
100% Orange Juice - 15 gems
Stars of Destiny - 8 gems
A Valley Without Wind - 8 gems
Ace of Spades - 26 gems
Alan Wake - 20 gems
Always Sometimes Monsters - 8 gems
Anna - 13 gems
Anomaly 2 - 6 gems
Anomaly Foil - 60 gems
Awesomenauts - 8 gems
BIT.TRIP BEAT - 16 gems
BIT.TRIP CORE - 16 gems
BIT.TRIP FATE - 8 gems
BIT.TRIP FLUX - 8 gems
BIT.TRIP VOID - 8 gems
Bad Hotel - 3 gems
Bad Rats - 4 gems
Ballpoint Universe - 1 gem (!)
Bastion - 32 gems
Arkham Origins - 17 gems
Battleblock Theater - 17 gems
Betrayer - 26 gems
Bleed - 16 gems
Blocks that Matter - 3 gems
Call of Juarez - 17 gems
Canyon Capers - 3 gems
Okay, that's 10 pages. Can't find any rhyme or reason to value.
there's at least one data point here: foils are worth 10x a non-foil.
Your list shows Anomaly cards as worth 6 with the foil being 60.
My Warlock cards are worth 10 gems; the foil is 100.
And Dungeons of Dredmor are worth 13; the foil is 130.
so that's probably a reasonable assumption at this point.
and someone was saying the more recent cards are worth more, but that's easily disproved: Advent Rising very recently got cards and those are only worth 14, while something like Bastion gives 32 gems per pop.

I would bet it has more to do with scarcity of the card. I'm sure valve has a database, they just mine, how many of card x exist in all locations? And weight for that.
Are any of the third party sites going to have a better auction browser up in time? Life is too short to go through 133 pages looking for stuff to bid on, without any ratings. At least Steam Enhanced got the wishlist & library items marked really quickly (pretty sure it wasn't working 30 minutes ago, but it is now).

Yeah, but you could also just buy a sack of 1000 gems for about 28 cents directly.
(edit: well, NOW you can't. Price is approaching 40 cents.)
That doesn't have to be a bot? I mean, you can input a quantity into your buy order...
I am not playing this. So much for sale meta.

Too much effort for 12 6 cents profit, but amusing as hell.
(edit, numbers are hard)

And then Gaben looks like this:
72 cents total, or 72 cents which was actually given to you after Valve's cut? :P

Edit: And then they sent me 100 emails about it.
My mistake. I R bad at maths (not really, but I blame brain-melting work day). 66 cents total, after Valve cut.
Sent a Steam Support ticket request, hopefully they can fix whatever got fucked with my account.

This thing is going to go for SO MUCH.
Single-use item which gives your profile a gold border? Ahahahahaha. Valve you evil bastards.
Yeah people are going to dump their entire inventories and then some into those bids. I will watch from a respectable distance.

This item is good for a limited time and will expire Jan 16th, 2015.
I not sure why this is bad?
I have a full set.
>_>
Makes going bid crazy the first day not terrible?
I was hoping they'd clear out and then after that you'd be able ot start looking for deals. No dice.
