One of the issues in London with uber was a lack of checking that the cars were plated and that the insurance remained valid after the initial submission of details.

Or rather, failing to account for things like drivers swapping plates between cars to give a car that failed local authority inspection the appearance of having passed, taking out insurance for exactly as long as it takes to obtain the certificate and then cancelling it, different drivers using the same vehicle under one set of submitted details, etc.

Which isn't uber's problem per se, more a symptom of them not being particularly savvy about the industry they decided to operate in, and their apparent lack of desire to perform any kind of due diligence. It did mean that they rapidly became a magnet for professional insurance fraudsters and drivers determined to avoid compliance costs.

There's a couple of ongoing cases with uninsured uber drivers being involved in fatal accidents, and uber have taken the stance that they aren't liable as a conventional private hire firm would be, so we'll see how that goes.

    Christmas come early for you

    Clover has an SA80

Does the airsoft version spew casings in wildly random directions so you can get the full SA80 experience of getting burns on all of your exposed skin? And did they subcontract production to a German company to get a version that actually works?

    NO!

It was a Taiwanese company. >.>

But seriously two things. Firstly aside from being laughably in ergonomic the L85A2 is a good bucking gun. And secondly my G&G L85A2 is a fucking beast that out ranges everything except snipers.

It just doesn't do single shot so well...

Or shoot NATO standard ammo if it's one of the pre-H&K redesign. And it will do single shot just fine. Wack it on the barrel and sometimes it will let out a random shot.

I'm talking about the airsoft one. Single shot on less than an 11.1v LiPo will fuck the gear box. But batteries that highly charged gradually kill the gun so...

As for the real knw you're being so unfair. All the shit you're talking about was the A1 not the A2. All we needed to make it good was perverted German science. >.>

It's a goofy bullpup design. All of the space guns deserve the mocking they get.

Typical american! You just want to keep the M4 forever.

The rest of the world is switching to bullpups so they must be doing something right. I especially like the tavor. Say what you like about what they use them for but the isrealis know how to make a good gun.

The M4 is a pretty solid design. It isn't prone to damage, it shares commonality of parts with the rest of the AR-15 family which keeps the costs down, and it doesn't jam often. It's one of those things where it does the job pretty well.

And bullpup popularity is because it provides a longer barrel length in a shorter design. In theory it allows for longer engagement ranges. There is some debate about what the engagement ranges will be in future conflicts. The trade off is that they are generally more complicated designs and a pain in the ass for lefties.

Ironically this probably gives UBER much better drivers here despite the company's aversion to regulation.

I'm not with my car right now but it looks like that cable will work swimmingly as it is merely an audio port. Port is covered with a lid tho. Luk liek dis:

    2009-toyota-camry-aux-auxiliary-input-jack.jpg

Unfortunately my car is NOT new enough to have a built-in USB port. Apparently there is a way to sync an iPod to the speakers, but I'm not sure how to do that or if it will work with my iphone/require heavy modding.

The sync to ipod thing I've seen is an audio port and a usb port right next to each other that you have to get a proprietary cable to use with. If it's bluetooth though, it'd be super easy to sync to a phone. What year, make / model / trim level?

2011 Toyota Camry SE. It looks like it wasn't pimped out with USBs as standard features compared to the 2010 model. All the pimpin' occurred in 2012, evidently.

It looks like the USB for ipod connection and bluetooth is a single package, so if you're at the base level, all you have is that aux port.

You could get something like this to just do bluetooth. I have that and I've used it with a Galaxy Note, Nexus 5, and Nexus 6 with no problems. Never tried with an iPhone, but it's bluetooth so I can't imagine anything's weird. You don't get any control, so you have to play the music from the phone manually, but it works well.

If you know what to look for the used car auctions can provide you with an excellent deal. Quite often they are intended for dealers to resell so pricing doesn't get near blue book. But they are sold as-is so you need to know what to expect with the car. Sounds like you did pretty well.

New Euro motorcycle licence requirements mean that we are probably about to see a resurgence in the popularity of the small-ish capacity motorway-capable bike.

Basically if you pass your bike test while over 17 but under 21 you are restricted to 47bhp, so there are a ton of cool little 400s coming out.

I came into the chat thread expecting Bob Saget. Apparently, I accidentally walked into the Uber thread. :-P

I've never used Uber, so I have no horse in this race, one way or the other.

I don't think I would mind never having to own a car again

Hakks u got a new car!?

yes! My old car finally stalled on me while I was driving. the mechanic looked at the engine and pffffloled and said it wasn't worth throwing any more money into it. Final mileage count: 260,700. Pour one out for a homey.

On the other hand my new car is SO BALLER in comparison I don't even know how to handle it

i love my new car and drive it for like 15 minutes about 4 miles through the city every day

i feel like i am underusing it

I've put almost 18,000 miles on my car since I got it and that was about 16 months ago. Mix of city driving with the occasional visit to my folks the next province over.

My sister was grumbling at me that I don't need my car for that much and I don't deserve to have the nicest car in the family right now because I wouldn't use it enough to justify it

Fact: everyone who ever road a motorcycle instantly died in an accident. Mostly because they flew off a ramp truck to jump over a bridge. But they all looked cool as they did it. So the choice of whether or not to ride a motorcycle is difficult.

I'm thinking of buying a cheap practical city car and then a motorcycle because I'm young and restless.

    where do you live?

i have a motorscooter and love it but can only use it during 8 months of the year (if i'm lucky)

also it's really only good within the city. if i'm going outside boston, somerville or cambridge it's kind of dicey.

however, within the city it's the best way to get around if the weather is cooperating.
