The ending of The Lego Movie was probably the best part of any movie I saw last year
It would have worked for me if
A: It was in a different movie (the tonal shift was just way too severe and the entire group I saw it with all felt it was just really poorly done)
and
B: It hadn't been Will Ferrel. We just expected him to go full douchbag humour like he normally does and were tensed up and dreading it and in the end he really didn't do anything.

No.
It isn't called that in the US. It's called a popsicle. I had a hard time getting over it being called an icy pole, too. Never heard that term used to reference a popsicle until i came to Australia.
Will Ferrell is a funny guy, and he helped bring us Funny or Die.
For the longest time I thought Funny or Die was Funny Ordie.
and I always wondered who the hell Ordie was.

The first time Blake asked if i wanted an icy pole i thought it was a weird Australian sex kink that was a thing because it is so damn hot here in the summer. I was like DUDE WE ARE IN A SUPERMARKET THERE ARE KIDS IN EARSHOT WHAT THE HELL.
There is nothing wrong about unwinding on a Friday night by wrapping your lips around an icy pole.

I do not like Will Ferrell the person. I like many movies that feature him in the cast, but him being in a movie on its own does not make me want to see it.

Will Ferrel is very hit or miss for me, he's great when he's great and when he's bad he's pretty bad. Some of that can be chalked up to directing of course but when he's being bad and annoying it feels like it's his style more than anything else that's grating on me.
